In a heartwarming tale that defied the odds, a Golden Retriever named Naoise (pronounced Neesha) was found and rescued by two walkers in Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains after being missing for two agonizing weeks. The story of Naoise’s survival and subsequent reunion with her family brings warmth to our hearts, even on the coldest of February days.

Ciara Nolan and Jean-Francois Bonnet, the heroic duo behind the rescue, stumbled upon Naoise during a treacherous walk in the snow-covered mountains. Jean-Francois described the conditions as bitterly cold, snowy, and windy, with poor visibility. As they reached near the summit, Ciara suddenly exclaimed, “There is a dog, there is a dog!” They discovered Naoise curled up against a rock, petrified and on the verge of freezing.

Moved by compassion, Ciara and Jean-Francois immediately wrapped the shivering dog in warm clothing and embarked on the arduous journey back to safety. Despite Naoise’s weakened state, they attempted to encourage her to walk, but she lacked the strength to stand. Using a scarf, they securely fastened Naoise to a backpack, which enabled them to carry her for four to five hours until they reached the road.

When Ciara contacted Naoise’s owners, Erina O’Shea Goetelen and her family, with the incredible news, they were overwhelmed with joy and disbelief. The family had lost two dogs in the Wicklow Mountains while off-leash, as the dogs bolted upon sighting a deer. While one dog had been found after a few days, they had all but given up hope of ever finding Naoise again.

The remarkable rescue efforts of Ciara, a former student of Mount Anville Secondary School in Dublin, were recognized and celebrated by the school on social media.

Upon Naoise’s return, it was apparent that the eight-year-old Labrador had endured a harrowing ordeal. She had lost a significant amount of weight, and her time in the mountains had caused dermatitis. However, with the love and care provided by her family, Naoise has been steadily recovering. Ms. O’Shea Goetelen shared that Naoise is “doing well” and happily wagging her tail at home. Although she is not yet ready to embark on more walks, her resilience shines through as she basks in the comfort of her loving environment.

When teachers go to school in the morning, they anticipate seeing kids, buses, and the commotion of a new day. They never expect to see a dog waiting in front of their building. That’s precisely what occurred at one Houston, Texas elementary school. The dog was actually sitting outside the main entrance of the institution.

Caleb Schaffer, a teacher in the small town of Columbia Falls, Montana, arrived at work one morning to discover a lovely dog waiting for him at the door. The dog wagged its tail at Schaffer, but he had to go to class, so he walked by the animal. He couldn’t stop thinking about the Lab mix who was outside the school building, so he went back to see if anything had changed. Unfortunately, the dog was gone when he got there.

The dog was unsuccessful while being hunted by animal control. Sure enough, the next morning, the dog was again at the entrance, and Schaffer spotted him. The man repeated his actions, and the dog vanished once more later in the day. He did notice how terrible the dog’s skin looked and how he was whining and clawing at it.

Finally, on the third day, the dog was there and Schaffer performed some action. He walked to his automobile, called the dog in, and the hound climbed straight into the vehicle with him. He returned home with his wife so he could work since Schaffer could not maintain him. Despite this, he attempted to contact a number of rescue organizations. No one had space available. He took him to a local animal shelter where he received basic care and a wash before being handed over.

He named him Clive and sent pictures to the Urgent Shelter Pets of Houston Facebook page. Thankfully, Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption saw the video and they arranged for a foster home. Schaffer tells the story to his students. In an interview with The Dodo, he said, “There are so many strays everywhere here. It’s given me an opportunity to talk about spaying, neutering, heartworm prevention, and the reality of shelters.”

The fishermen decided to wait and give the mother moose the chance to rescue her baby. But an hour later, the calf was still in the water and in distress. The fishermen then stepped in to save the struggling animal. Two of them carefully lifted the calf from the water and onto the shore, ensuring it was a safe distance from the edge.

After shaking and shivering from the cold water, the calf stood up on its own. However, it initially followed the fishermen back to the water. So they waited until the calf was reunited with its mother.

The Pittie wore a muzzle while Manny taught him what a kind hand felt like. He continued to growl, but once his new dad saw his tail wag, Manny knew they had reached a pivotal point in their relationship. Little by little, Pablo warmed up to Manny. He stood by the gate, sad to see his dad leave for work. Pablo’s trust grew, and he no longer needed to wear a muzzle. Finally, after six months, a gentler Pablo emerged. Lee from Asher House came across a pitiful sight of a malnourished Pit Bull in an animal shelter. As an animal lover, he knew he could make a difference and rushed to the shelter to rescue her. The puppy was in a terrible state and was all skin and bones. Lee decided to take her to the Asher House sanctuary, and that’s where her new life began.

Upon arrival, the puppy, now named Daisy, was too anxious and overwhelmed to meet the other dogs at the sanctuary. So, Lee introduced her gradually to prevent any shock. Lee held Daisy in his arms and said, “That’s my baby,” and the little pup seemed to know she was in safe hands. Daisy followed Lee without a leash and seemed to have developed an instant connection with him.

Daisy quickly adjusted to her new surroundings and settled in with the other dogs at the sanctuary. Her health improved rapidly, and she started putting on weight. She transformed from a malnourished, frightened puppy into a happy and healthy dog. If Lee had not come to her rescue, who knows what would have happened to the poor little girl.

A man enjoying his daily stroll behind his house heard desperate cries for help. After investigating, he found nothing and no one, but he remained perplexed by the unusual situation. The man decided to continue walking down the beach to see what was happening.

As the man got closer to the shore, he saw a tiny creature that was so fragile, it broke his heart. This baby otter, who should have been swimming with her family, was sitting in a pile of tears crying for her mother. The aquarium employee knew he had to try to reunite the otter with her family.

The employee carefully picked up the baby otter and walked with her up and down the beach, hoping her cries would lure her mother out. However, there was no other otter around, likely due to the large swells brought in by the weather. The otter was probably separated from her mom for good. The man had no other choice but to bring the baby otter to the aquarium.

Happy endings are not always easy to come by for special needs otters. As the stories show, the Monterey Bay Aquarium rescued a traumatized baby pup. Now, her fearlessness is inspiring other young otters, and the Shedd Aquarium helped facilitate her transition to her new home.

The day before this baby otter was transferred to the Shedd Aquarium, she had the pleasure of receiving care at Monterey Bay. The humans there knew it would be crucial for her to adapt to various otter activities, so the pup learned about solid foods and swimming in water below her belly.

The pup became more and more playful and even tolerated being brushed and towel-dried. Before long, it was time for her to journey over to Shedd Aquarium. She probably had no idea how much she would be missed. Some of her new human friends even cried as they said goodbye.
