A man enjoying his daily stroll behind his house heard desperate cries for help. After investigating, he found nothing and no one, but he remained perplexed by the unusual situation. The man decided to continue walking down the beach to see what was happening.
As the man got closer to the shore, he saw a tiny creature that was so fragile, it broke his heart. This baby otter, who should have been swimming with her family, was sitting in a pile of tears crying for her mother. The aquarium employee knew he had to try to reunite the otter with her family.
The employee carefully picked up the baby otter and walked with her up and down the beach, hoping her cries would lure her mother out. However, there was no other otter around, likely due to the large swells brought in by the weather. The otter was probably separated from her mom for good. The man had no other choice but to bring the baby otter to the aquarium.
Happy endings are not always easy to come by for special needs otters. As the stories show, the Monterey Bay Aquarium rescued a traumatized baby pup. Now, her fearlessness is inspiring other young otters, and the Shedd Aquarium helped facilitate her transition to her new home.
The day before this baby otter was transferred to the Shedd Aquarium, she had the pleasure of receiving care at Monterey Bay. The humans there knew it would be crucial for her to adapt to various otter activities, so the pup learned about solid foods and swimming in water below her belly.
The pup became more and more playful and even tolerated being brushed and towel-dried. Before long, it was time for her to journey over to Shedd Aquarium. She probably had no idea how much she would be missed. Some of her new human friends even cried as they said goodbye.
A baby otter has successfully made her way to her new home. Just wait until you see what happens next when she meets her new caregivers. Will you look at that face of hers?
