Rio the Husky was a starry-eyed little puppy when she was first taken in by her forever family. But it was her human sister, baby Hazel, who made her feel at home in an instant! Hazel and Rio intuitively acknowledged each other as siblings – and they made a sacred promise to grow up together having fun!

Their parents have been pleasantly surprised to see Rio and Hazel’s budding friendship over the weeks! The duo is like inseparable siblings who absolutely refuse to leave each other’s side no matter what. They hang out together in Hazel’s crib or Rio’s crate, nap together, and even share their snacks selflessly!

For Rio and Hazel, the world just disappears every time they are together. They have even developed their own secret “language” to communicate with utter perfection. So while Rio howls away with passion, Hazel babbles her replies (read: copies Rio’s howling!) throughout their long and juicy conversations!

These days, Rio and Hazel have become partners in crime in their silly shenanigans around the household! The family is already witnessing the differences in growth progression for the pair, but this is only making Rio more protective toward her precious sister. It warms our hearts to know that Rio and Hazel are living the best lives together, and we wish them a future filled with the best adventures!

Hope For Paws set out for rescue after receiving a message about a homeless dog in a ghost town. Eldad and Loreta would arrive with treats in hand, but the Husky didn’t seem interested. He didn’t trust people and stayed near the tracks of an active train. They thought to go get a cheeseburger and try again.

Rescuers would spend many more hours trying to lure the blue-eyed dog over, but he just wouldn’t have it. So they would need to actively go and capture him. They set a net around the perimeter and cornered him. Using the gentle snare, they finally had him in their possession! There was no way they were going to let him spend another scary night here.

They named him Prince and headed back for necessary care and spa treatment after spending so much time on the dirty streets. The Husky would need to take some training lessons, but it wouldn’t be long until he found the perfect forever home. Amazing! 🙂

Mishka the Husky was so corpulent and appeared to be unwell at the shelter. She was unable to be adopted out owing to her violent behavior, and she was simply waiting around for death. But one woman noticed the dog on their website and had to go see what was going on for herself.

After meeting, Naleah called out her name and they made eye contact. She knew right then that she wanted to adopt Mishka! The obese dog would pass her temperament evaluation, and her new mother went down to the shelter to get her! Her second chance at life was now underway.

Back in his home, Mishka remained withdrawn and uninterested in anything. The foster pups, on the other hand, began to draw her out of her shell little by little. A walk-and-hike regimen was established, and she lost weight as a result of it. However, this didn’t last long and you’ll definitely want to see how Mishka is doing now in the video below. 🙂

Zeus loves playing in the water in the bathtub and wants the water turned on. Even though it’s time for his walk he howls in protest because he wants to play in the water! Have you ever seen something like this? Usually animals do not like having baths or water in general and like having walks instead, but it is the exact opposite for this dog! It is so funny how this husky just howls in protest for doing something he doesn’t like. He really is just like a little child, adorable yet so stubborn!

Zeus is a seven-year-old Siberian Husky who lives life on his own terms and does not like being told what to do. So when it comes time for his morning run, and he’s not ready to run, he bunkers down on his bed and howls in protest! This extremely stubborn Husky is on another one of his vocal rants. He’s acting like a spoiled toddler!

Huskies are an absolutely gorgeous type of dog, and are probably the closest to their wolf ancestors in terms of appearance. The term “husky” actually refers to a few different breeds of dogs used for sled pulling and includes breeds like the Alaskan malamute and the American Akita among others. They are highly intelligent, energetic, active, and strong-willed dogs.

The friendly and playful Husky flips onto his back and begins kissing his human sibling. This takes the baby by surprise, and his face just about says it all! Dad can’t help but laugh at the beautiful and silly moment. You can see the foundation being laid for a lifelong friendship that’ll only grow stronger with time.

It was an unlikely sight for shelter workers when they found a beautiful purebred Husky named Nate roaming the streets like a stray. However, it was soon established that Nate was very different from other homeless dogs. His hollow and haunted eyes clearly spoke of a disturbing past, and he was extremely skittish and shut himself down.

When the workers scanned Nate for a microchip, his behavior finally made sense. The poor guy was registered under a laboratory and had been subjected to the most brutal testing procedures for months on end. What’s worse was that the irresponsible lab remorselessly dumped him on the streets because they didn’t want to deal with his “psychologically disturbed” state.

The shelter reached out to the workers of Beagle Freedom Project, who had experience with animal testing victims before. Together, they found a foster mom who was ready to embrace Nate with all his scars. She made an intense rehab plan and worked with him for months to drive away his trauma.

Toward the end of his video, we see Nate smiling brightly as he’s finally ready for his forever home. He may look like a “normal dog” now, but his foster mom believes that he will always be a special warrior to her. Every year, thousands of animals suffer and rot in labs in the name of human greed. It’s about time we stand up for lab test victims and raise our voices against the inhumane treatment of these animals.

A Husky named Mackenzie arrived at her forever home when she was 10-weeks-old. At the time, her vision wasn’t perfect, but she seemed healthy otherwise. Yet, as she grew up, she developed glaucoma in one eye, and then the other. Despite Mandy Leung’s efforts to keep her puppy’s eyes healthy, the condition worsened. Leung eventually decided that the best thing to do for Mackenzie was to have her eyes removed to eliminate the pain.

It seems like a tough transition, but Mackenzie quickly got used to her new life. You’d never realize she’s blind at first, especially based on her heartwarming reaction to snow.

Snow Brings Happiness

Since Mackenzie lost her sight at a young age, she quickly adapted to life without vision. Instead, she uses her nose to get around, and being blind doesn’t hold her back one bit. She loves getting attention from humans, playing with other dogs, and most of all, running around in the snow.

“I love taking Mackenzie to new places to explore. New dog parks, new hiking trails. I want to expose her to as many new things as I can, that way she can experience the things normal dogs do. Even if you can’t see the beautiful scenery, you can smell all the different scents and just absorb it all,” Leung said.

As much as Mackenzie loves her outdoor adventures, everything is always better for her if there’s snow. Leung says that snow is one of Mackenzie’s favorite things in the world. While she’s often quiet and relaxed inside, she gets a burst of energy as soon as she senses the snow outside.

In one viral video on Mackenzie’s Instagram page, Leung captured the Husky getting overly excited about a fresh snowfall. The pup bounds outside and down the porch stairs with ease, and then begins running in circles around the snow-covered yard. If it were up to Mackenzie, she’d spend all day out there.

Making the Most Out of an Unfortunate Situation

Sometimes, Mackenzie spends several hours playing in the snow at a time, and she’s disappointed when her mom makes her eventually come inside. Luckily, her thick winter coat keeps her safe while outside in the cold temperatures. Instead of wallowing in sadness after losing her sight, Mackenzie is happier than ever. Her journey is an inspiration to many.

“Learning to adapt at such a young age has made her into a very confident girl,” Leung wrote on Instagram. “She gets around new places just fine and can play fetch like a normal dog! I even forget that she’s blind sometimes because she stares right into my eyes when she looks at me.”

Someone that Mackenzie has inspired the most is her littermate, Zorro. She sometimes meets up with him for playdates, and he recently had to have his eyes removed for similar reasons. So, Mackenzie didn’t hesitate to stick by his side and teach him some things after his surgery. Now, they still have playdates together as if nothing has changed.

It’s easy to pity special needs dogs, but in most cases, they’re just as optimistic and fulfilled as any other dog. Like every canine, they have their quirks, habits, and favorite things. And, of course, Mackenzie’s favorite thing will always be running around in the snow, no matter what challenges life throws at her.

It’s amazing how one tiny detail can change the outcome of an entire situation. For a Husky named Coconut, it was the fact that she wore a collar. Coconut and her Husky siblings often get into trouble, but this one mischievous plan led to her getting shot. If she hadn’t been wearing a sturdy GPS collar, the shots would’ve been fatal.

Of course, the collar isn’t designed to be bulletproof, but it was an incredible coincidence. Now, Coconut is safe at home. The whole situation led to a lot of controversy and lessons learned.

Always Looking for Trouble

Carly Kendall from Layton, Utah has three Huskies: Axel, Storm, and Coconut. Coconut is the sweetest, most loving of the three, but she’s also the biggest troublemaker. She is a master escape artist, despite her family’s efforts to stop her.

“She can dig under anything, climb over anything, squeeze through anything. She’s quite the Houdini,” said Kendall.

One day, Coconut and Axel escaped their yard after digging a hole under the fence. Coconut had a Fi GPS collar on, so Kendall quickly checked the pup’s location. Right away, she knew something was wrong.

“The thing is, normally we get, ‘This is where she is,’ and then by the time it updates again, she’s like a mile away because she’s just running, but she just wasn’t moving,” said Kendall.

By the time Kendall drove there, Coconut and Axel were still in the same spot. Coconut was covered in blood while Axel stood beside her, looking panicked. At first, Kendall feared that the pup had been hit by a car. But as it turns out, the Huskies had been chasing a rancher’s sheep, so the rancher shot at them. Coconut had a few bullet wounds on her back, but somehow, her collar protected her from gunshots to the neck, which would’ve been fatal.

Two Sides to Every Story

Luckily, Kendall was able to rush Coconut to the vet in time to save her life. More neck wounds would’ve caused severe bleeding, so it’s a miracle that her collar protected her. She had to get some stitches, but now she’s healing well.

Unfortunately, according to Utah’s laws, what the rancher did is legal. People are allowed to shoot dogs if they see them attacking, chasing, or bothering livestock. It’s likely because livestock can be put in extreme danger simply by running away from a dog. In this situation, the rancher also claims that they thought the Huskies were wolves. However, officials recommend that individuals try to capture dogs before harming them.

Of course, dog parents should keep an eye on their dogs while outside, but that shouldn’t be the focus of the story. Having a dog on the brink of death is horrific and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Kendall’s family is probably still heartbroken, so while there are laws and lessons to learn, they still deserve sympathy. It’s a relief that Coconut is expected to make a full recovery!

Any sudden fire can be scary, but when you’re several floors off the ground, there’s even more reasons to panic. Virginia Beach firefighters recently responded to a fire at a tall apartment building. The fire broke out on the 15th floor, the very top of the structure.

While the residents made it out safely, there was one innocent dog who was left home alone. So, firefighters rushed to the top of the building to bring him to safety. Little did they know, carrying that dog wasn’t quite as easy as they first thought, but they saved his life!

Trapped Among the Flames

Firefighters quickly responded to a high-rise fire at a Virginia Beach apartment building. The fire was on the 15th floor, so going up and down the stairs was much harder than in a typical house fire. Of course, that didn’t slow firefighters down at all though.

“There was a lot of smoke,” firefighter Cody Brenon said. “It was kind of hard. We had some issues trying to figure out where we were going to go.”

When firefighters were notified of a dog trapped on that top floor, they hoped the pup would be a tiny Chihuahua. Yet, when they got up there, they were shocked to see a Husky, who they guessed was about 100 pounds.

Igor the Husky was unconscious, and his humans weren’t home during the fire. Brenon carried the large dog down 15 flights of stairs. Once they were outside, firefighters gave the dog a special oxygen mask in hopes of saving his life.

A Breath of Fresh Air

Luckily, Igor had no burns, only smoke inhalation. If he had been in that apartment any longer, he might not have made it. He regained consciousness and became responsive. Firefighters rushed him to animal control, who turned to Bay Beach Vet Hospital for the dog’s serious medical needs.

Igor is suspected to make a full recovery. Lots of kind dog lovers have donated pet supplies to help make his time at the vet easier. His family is also relieved that he is safe.

“It felt really good to know that he made it through it,” Brenon said. “That’s why I became a firefighter.”

It’s suspected that the fire started in an apartment kitchen, near the stove. Yet, the official cause hasn’t been stated yet. Luckily, there were no human injuries reported from the fire, but two adults and one child were displaced.

Virginia Beach Animal Control is always looking for more donations, especially to help dogs like Igor. Any donation can make a difference!

Dogs are extremely smart animals with an incredible sense of smell. With both of those qualities, they are able to accomplish many things, including saving human lives. There are many stories told of pups being heroes, whether it’s alerting their family to a house fire, getting help when their owner is hurt, or finding people who are lost.

One dog from Birmingham, England, has done the latter. He is now being deemed a hero after he helped save the life of a newborn baby boy who had been abandoned in a British park at The Mounds, off Shannon Road in Kings Norton.

It happened when the dog, a Husky named Hel, was out on a walk with his owner, Terry Walsh. Hel walked toward a bush and started gently nudging a pile of blankets. It turned out to be a newborn baby, who awoke from Hel’s body heat, and began crying. Walsh was absolutely shocked at what Hel had found. The baby was only a few hours old, wrapped in a blanket and left in the park to die.

They rushed the baby to the nearest hospital, where he was examined and thankfully given a clean bill of health. If it weren’t for Hel, the baby would’ve eventually died out there or worse, gotten killed by a wild animal.

They decided to name the baby George, since he was found the day before St. George’s Day. He is doing well, and West Midlands Police are now investigating, trying to find his mother.

“I am reaching out to George’s mother. You are my primary concern right now, and we really need to make sure you’re okay. I don’t know the circumstances around George’s birth but, as a parent myself, I know exactly how overwhelming becoming a parent can be,” Detective Inspector Neil Hunt said in a statement. “We’re ready to offer you any help and support you may need. George is safe and well, and your health and wellbeing is our priority – please be assured that you are not in any trouble.”

Police have since released surveillance footage of a woman who was seen walking along the road where George was abandoned before he was found. They believe this may be his mother, or that she holds vital information.
