The Henrico Police Division of Henrico County, Virginia, shared the story on social media. A local resident found a stray cat on their porch who wouldn’t leave. An APU Officer responded, and the cat was taken to a shelter. The vets scanned Piper for a microchip, and to their surprise, they discovered that she had one.

They contacted the owner and were stunned to learn that Piper had been missing for almost a decade. The owner had given up hope of ever finding her again and had marked the cat as deceased in Piper’s microchip information.

Piper’s long-lost return was like a miracle for her owner. While it’s unclear what the feline was up to all those years, her owner was thrilled to have her back, and the reunion was a joyous occasion.

According to the Henrico Police Division, microchips were the key to the reunion. They encouraged all pet owners to have their pets microchipped and to keep their contact information up-to-date. They emphasized that microchips are an essential tool for reuniting lost pets with their families.

Ace the cat is often misunderstood. He’s a bit different after losing one of his eyes to an infection, but he’s just the sweetest thing ever. He was rescued as a stray kitten and has lived life to the fullest ever since. But people are often hesitant to greet him, and children can find him scary.

That’s why it was such a surprise when the cat’s owners caught a little boy playing with Ace on the outdoor security camera. The neighbor kid takes time out of his routine almost daily to pet Ace and give him company. It melted the owners’ hearts.

So they boy didn’t feel like he had to sneak around, they informed him that he’s welcome anytime. And Ace has taken a mutual interest in the boy. The cat will be sitting by the front door when he sees his friend approaching, and he’ll run outside to greet him!

People will surely continue to shy away from Ace, but this little boy knows better than to judge a book by its cover. These two best friends share an incredible bond, and it provides us with a great life lesson. 🙂

Mocha stepped in and was able to distract the big dog while Bailey got away. The poor dog would have to undergo surgery after receiving dozens of deep bites racking up a $2,000 veterinary bill. Nampa Animal Control has cited the attacking dog’s owner for the incident, and Bailey would go home to recover with her best feline friend by her side.

Although cats and dogs have contrasting personalities, they can get along just fine. In fact, most of the time they try to avoid each other to stay out of conflict. However, we think that the idea of enmity between these two animals is overblown and this video proves it!

A Turkish woman found an unlikely duo while walking by a river- a dog trying to rescue a drowning cat! She quickly realized that the cat was in trouble and attempted to save it, but before she could do anything, she saw a nearby dog wading into the water to help.

The woman decided to continue filming as a touching moment unfolded before her. As the worried dog leaned forward to check on the cat, the cat extended her paws toward him and begged him to help. Without wasting any time, the dog dived into the water and saved the day!

The dog went underwater and positioned his body so that he could pick the cat up on his back. He then transported her to the shore, where he helped her move to dry land. He himself struggled a bit to get out of the water after rescuing the cat, but thankfully he was steady on land within a few seconds!

As this video of a dog’s selfless act circulated on social media, it not only touched the hearts of millions but also divided them. People were split over whether or not the woman who filmed should have helped instead – with some calling her shallow and insensitive for not putting down her phone.

It’s always heartbreaking when a pet goes missing, but it’s important to not give up hope: sometimes animals return to us when we least expect them, whether it be weeks, months or even years after they disappeared.

But one recent reunion is truly unbelievable: a cat recently reunited with her owner nearly a decade after she went missing, finally found a thousand miles away from home.

Susan Moore, of Sanger, California, adopted rescue cat Harriet as a kitten 11 years ago, to be a barn cat in her new country home, according to the Coeur d’Alene Press.

The cat became sick and almost died shortly after the adoption, but Susan got her veterinary care and she recovered. In return, Harriet proved to be a very loyal barn cat, keeping the property free from rodents.

But about 9 years ago, Harriet went missing. Susan looked everywhere, but the cat was nowhere to be found. The owner eventually lost hope, accepting that Harriet was gone, perhaps eaten by coyotes.

But nearly a decade later, she got an unexpected phone call. It was from Companions Animal Center, in Hayden, Idaho, informing her that they had her cat.

Susan was confused — the Idaho shelter was about 1,000 miles away, and she never imagined that her long-lost cat could still be alive. When she realized they were talking about Harriet, she was stunned.

“When they answered and we told them we had their cat, they were speechless,” KHS Development Director Vicky Nelson recalled to the Coeur d’Alene Press.

It isn’t known where Harriet has been all these years, or how she got from California to Idaho. Despite being gone for nearly a decade, the cat was reportedly in good health. The vets were still able to identify Susan as the owner thanks to Harriet’s microchip.

Susan and Harriet were soon reunited, and while the owner was worried the cat was “not going to remember” her, the two reportedly still have a bond.

No one knows what Harriet has been up to all this time, but now she’s in good hands, back on her family’s 41-acre ranch, joining Susan’s other barn cats and farm animals.

What a miracle — we’re so glad Harriet is finally home safe and sound. Better late than never!

It’s also a reminder to get your pets microchipped, which makes reunions like this possible: vets are able to identify a lost pet’s owners, no matter how long they’ve been missing or how far away they end up.

People often ask “are you a cat person or a dog person?” as if you can only choose one. But of course, many animal lovers have room in their heart for both.

But if you can only handle one pet, sometimes you have to choose one or the other… or do you?

It turns out, there’s one animal who somehow manages to have the best of both worlds, looking strangely like a cross between a cat and a dog:

This unusual little guy looks a bit like he has a dog’s face on a cat’s body with maybe a hint of fox—and people online are saying he seems to change from cat to dog depending on the photo:

“Do you want a cat or a dog? YES,” one Reddit user joked.

“Corgi mixed with a British short hair cat,” another said.

But if you guessed “dog,” you’re correct: this little pup is named Dúi, and his unique look comes from a mix of rare breeds.

He lives in Vietnam with his owners Hai Anh and Tuan. “He is a mix of a native dog breed [Hmong] and a short-legged dog called Dingo,” Hai Anh told The Dodo. “But I think he might have a gene mutation too.”

Not only does he look like a cat-dog, he also has some hilariously weird expressions:

So it’s no surprise that Dúi has become an online sensation, both in his native country and beyond.

“It’s been only 5 days since we created Dúi’s fan page and it now has more than 40K likes,” Hai Anh said. “The dog now has loads of fans both in Vietnam and around the world.”

His Facebook page currently has over 232,000 followers—you can see why he’s so happy.

Despite his celebrity status and unique look, Dúi is just a normal, happy dog.

He likes playing with both humans and dog friends,” Hai Anh told Bored Panda. “He is really sweet and funny!”

What would you do if you hear a tiny little kitten meowing for help? Delaware-based Morgan McKenzie was on her property when she discovered a hollowed-out log that had a little gray and white kitten inside. It was crying for help. McKenzie left the kitten where she’d found it, thinking that the mom would return.

However, as night approached, she went out to the log once more to check on the kitten and found it still completely alone. That is when she finally realized that the kitten was in need of help.

McKenzie said to The Dodo, “When it started to get dark, we went back to make sure she was gone, but we could still hear her little cries. I was so glad we picked her up because I don’t think she would have made it. She was only a day or two old. She couldn’t see, her ears were still folded and she was starving.”

McKenzie decided to name the sweet little thing Polly, after Polly Pocket since she was so tiny she could fit in her pocket. Poor little Polly was riddled with fleas, so McKenzie decided to give the tiny kitten a bath in the sink. Curious as to the commotion, McKenzie’s 12-year-old Lab, Paxton, came over to investigate.

McKenzie revealed, “Paxton got to meet Polly right after her bath. He fell in love with her at first because he got to clean her after every bottle feed and she loved it because she didn’t know any different.”

It didn’t take long for the two to bond, with the big dog licking the tiny kitten. It was so precious how well he looked after her.

“She used to stand as still as possible until she could hear his footsteps,” McKenzie shared. “She would go bolting over to where she thought she heard him.”

“I don’t think she ever knew any better so Polly thinks this is all just normal,” McKenzie said. “She grooms him, he grooms her. I don’t think she knows she is a cat.”

The two have become inseparable and spend all their time together – either cuddling on the couch, playing, or eating. And they look so cute together.

Since being rescued, Polly has grown a bit and is now 5 months old, while Paxton is almost at the 13-year mark. Regardless of their big age difference, these two friends are still as close as ever. With Polly now a playful kitten, this old pooch is showing that he’s got the patience to spare in spades – which is probably a good thing.

As McKenzie said, “The two of them still adore each other. She’s becoming more of the pesky little sister who loves to follow him around and attack the toys he is playing with.”

The love and loyalty of a pet is incredible to experience. Once a dog chooses you, that’s it, you’ve been claimed. You become their everything. But, why does this happen?

Well, dogs are naturally pack animals who favor the company of others. Many experts believe that this pack mentality, coupled with a survival instinct, is why dogs remain so loyal to their human companions. They bond deeply with their caretakers, and view you as their pack. Dogs are even well known to extend this love and loyalty long after an owner has passed away, or even after they’ve been abandoned.

Not long after an elderly couple moved from their apartment to an assisted living center, residents started noticing their dog hanging out at the entrance of the building. Every day and night, they’d see him curled up in the exact same spot on a blanket by the front door. It became obvious that he had been abandoned. But they also noticed that he wasn’t alone.

A homeless cat took a liking to the pup and the pair instantly became inseparable. For six long months, everywhere the dog went, the cat followed shortly behind. They even shared the food that residents had been leaving for them as they passed by. Not only did they hang out together and play all day, but they also snuggled up together at night, comforting one another and keeping each other warm until morning. It was undeniable that the pair took comfort in one another.

“They hug to keep warm when they sleep together at night. Maybe they think they are in the same situation since they met on the street. They know they are different, but they get along well, they comfort each other, ” said a resident of the apartment complex.

However, when residents approached the door of the building, the cat would dart away, watching from a “safe distance.” But, the dog would stay put. He would stare at each one of their faces, almost as if he was looking for someone specific. Onlookers began to assume that he was searching for the faces of his previous family members. And that he was still holding out hope that they would return for him.

As it grew closer to winter, residents became concerned for their safety. One person even built them a make-shift shelter, hoping it would shield them from the wind and cold. A rescue team was eventually called to the scene, and they were able to catch the pair and get them assessed by a veterinarian.

Both of them were said to be in good health, and were then put up for adoption. The residents of the complex took comfort in knowing that the pair would be somewhere warm and loved by a new forever family.

When Koda the Husky dog went for his usual walk on a scorching Arizona day, she didn’t set to be a hero. But when she saved a cat in need, she certainly earned the title. As Koda and her mom were strolling down the Avenue of The Fountains in Fountain Hills, the curious dog caught the scent of something amiss outside Fearless Kitty Rescue. Tugging her mom along, Koda just had to sniff the plastic trash bag she discovered near the rescue.

Her mom tried to convince Koda to return to their walk, but the persistent pup refused to tear her snout away from the bag. Deciding Koda had found something that couldn’t be left, the dog mom opened the bag and the red cooler inside and discovered a black cat trapped in the cooler within the bag. Though not yet 6 a.m., the air outside was already on its way to roasting as recent days had seen temperatures reaching over 100 degrees. Inside the bag and cooler, the temperature was rising fast, putting the poor cat in deep peril. Fortunately, the darling kitty was still alive thanks to Koda’s insistent discovery!

A Fearless Kitty Lives Thanks to a Hero Hound

Teryn Jones and her fellow cat rescuers quickly took the cat into Fearless Kitty’s care, where the cat, newly named Juliane, was promptly examined by El Dorado Animal Hospital. Juliane was pronounced fine from being trapped in the bag and cooler, but she had a pre-existing condition, a large, raw mass on her tail that will likely lead to amputation, as Teryn explained to AZFamily.com.

When it came to choosing a name for the tough mini-panther, Teryn told Facebook, “In the Danish culture, the name Juliane means ‘Fearless.’ And Fearless she is!”

And soon, this fearless feline will be ready for her forever home, but for now, she’s taking it easy in a foster home where she can “decompress” from the trauma of her drop-off.

“We can’t thank Koda, her mom, and all of Juliane’s heroes enough for coming to her rescue,” Teryn shared. “Who knows how long she had been abandoned and how much longer she could have survived if not found by Koda.”

“Despite her circumstances, Juliane is a sweetheart, and loves to purr and receive pets.”

Working Diligently to Find Answers

Because of the nature of Juliane’s abandonment, the rescue is working with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office regarding this senseless act, plus “we are actively working with our neighbors (both store and homes) to see if someone saw something.” According to People.com, this is the third abandonment Fearless Kitty has seen in roughly 6 months.

“It’s hard, because people usually dump animals in the middle of the night, even before dog walkers get up. But trust us, we are working diligently to see if we can find something! We’re definitely glad Juliane is still with us.”

After this incident, Teryn said on Facebook, “We are actively looking into a security system for our building.”

As Teryn said to AZFamily, “You just can’t do this to animals. Well, you can’t do this to anybody, let’s be honest. Animals don’t have a voice; they can’t tell you what’s going on.”

While it can become easy to get lost in the anger at people who abuse or treat cats with cruelty, Teryn wants us all to remember there’s a joyful side to Juliane’s tale. Thanks to Koda and the kindness of animal lovers, Juliane will get the chance at a happy home so many cats miss out on. But together, we can keep saving all the cats because every kitty matters.
