It’s not every day that a rescue worker gets a chance to save a scared, lonely pup from the streets. But for Donna Lochmann, Chief Life-Saving Officer for Stray Rescue of St. Louis, it’s a mission she tackles with all her heart. When she received a call about a stray dog in North St. Louis, she dropped everything and rushed to the scene.

The dog had been seen in an industrial area, and the callers had already corralled her into a fenced-in area. But the dog was so scared that Lochmann had trouble getting close to her. Every time she approached, the dog backed away.

To gain the dog’s trust, Lochmann offered her a treat. She tossed a sausage in her direction, and the pup gobbled it up instantly. Lochmann continued to toss sausages to the dog, but instead of eating them, the pup started to make her way towards her rescuer.

“She passed right by the other sausages. She was more interested in me than the food,” Lochmann recalls.

The dog nuzzled her head into Lochmann’s shirt and rolled over, revealing her belly for some much-needed attention. Lochmann was stunned and touched by the dog’s affection. After a few minutes of snuggling, she gently placed a leash around the dog’s neck and led her to the shelter.

Cutie Pie, as she was later named, was given a clean bill of health and placed in a foster home. Lochmann reports that she’s doing great, playing in the backyard with her new dog sibling.

Despite finding love and comfort, Cutie Pie is still looking for her forever home. Lochmann is confident that the right family will come along, but in the meantime, she’s grateful for the chance to see the once-scared pup finally happy.

In Missouri, a Good Samaritan saw a puppy resting on a trash heap a few days in a row and decided to call for assistance. He made a call to Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL), and their team of rescuers headed out right away to save her.

The puppy was first noticed by Donna Lochmann, the chief lifesaving officer for SRSL.

“When we got there, she was still rummaging through the trash because she was hungry, and we could see that she was skinny,” Lochmann told The Dodo.

When the dog first didn’t notice Lochmann, she immediately began to hide under the trash can.

Lochmann understood that she would need to win the puppy’s trust in order to save her. She thus took a look at the dog’s hunger before taking a treat out.

“She was very receptive to the sausages,” Lochmann said. “But when I knelt down and offered one to her, she went past the food and came right up to me.”

The adorable dog moved as near to her rescuer as she could and locked eyes with her instead of chewing on the food that was being presented to her.

“It was as if she was saying, ‘Are you here to help me?’” Lochmann said.

After gaining the dog’s confidence, Lochmann led her to the car while wearing a leash around her neck.

The puppy, which Lochmann dubbed Little Toes, immediately won the hearts of every employee at the shelter as soon as they arrived.

“She was so sweet with everybody in the clinic,” Lochmann said. “She was pretty much hugging up on everybody.”

Little Toes was only at the shelter for a day and a half before being placed in foster care, but during that brief time, she made sure to show as much affection as she could.

Little Toes now spends her time pampering her new foster parents and canine sibling. Now that she is in a secure and caring temporary home, her sweet personality is developing more and more every day.

The fact that Little Toes will never go hungry makes her friends at SRSL happy, even though they miss her hugs.

Tanya Ohanian, the dog director at Evanston Animal Shelter, initially assumed the dog was merely a local stray when she received a report about one found nearby in Cook County, Illinois.

Ohanian was unaware that the dog had been taken away from her family and attempting to return home for the previous five years.

Staff members scanned the dog’s microchip safely inside the shelter, but the data they discovered was not up to date. They speculated that it might lead nowhere.

The shelter, however, soon acquired a more thorough account of the dog’s past with the aid of a nearby group called Microchip Hunters.

The dog was not a nameless stray, according to the newly discovered facts. The dog was named Dottie, and her family had been looking for her for the past five years.

Soon after, Ohanian called Dottie’s family to share the wonderful news that their best friend had returned and was waiting for them.

George Loving, Dottie’s father, had been missing his dog for so long that the news was hard for him to accept.

Loving said, “I cried many nights about it.”

Unexpectedly, he found her in his arms once more.

Ohanian remarked, “We were all very, very happy.”

After all this time, Dottie’s family was not sure if the pup would recognize them, but it was immediately evident that she did.

Ohanian asserted that “There was never hesitation.

Employees at the shelter were in tears as they saw the dog instantly unwind into her loved one’s touch.

Ohanian remarked, “It was emotional for all of us. I think we were all in tears.”

What Dottie’s trip involved over the past five years remains a mystery. Although her family may never fully understand what transpired while she was away, they are simply happy that she is back home at this point.

The moment police officers broke a window to rescue a Shih Tzu from a hot automobile was seen on camera.

On Monday, when it reached 33°C, NET Tram employees heard him barking for the assistance inside the locked silver hatchback. They alerted the police, who were dispatched to a parking lot in Nottingham.

The PC who opened the door can hear the small black dog panting loudly as he climbs over the smashed glass and into his arms.

He was taken into some nearby shade right away, where the cops managed to calm the animal and administer some water from a bottle.

The animal was subsequently transported in blue light to a local veterinary facility, where a dangerously high temperature of 39.1°C was found to be present.

The dog probably wouldn’t have lived if NET Nottingham Tram employees hadn’t raised the alarm, according to PC Jamie Martin.

On a warm day, many people believe that leaving their dog in the car with the windows open is OK.

However, this episode clearly demonstrates that this is not the case. Simply said, on a warm day, you should never leave your dog alone in a car.

Although it is not against the law to leave a dog in a hot car, the officer stated, that owners, are primarily responsible for their pet’s health and welfare.

He cautioned that owners may face charges of animal cruelty and a possible prison sentence if a dog got sick or died in the back of a hot automobile.

Even when it doesn’t feel that warm outside, cars may get as hot as an oven, according to the RSPCA.

The message that dogs perish in hot automobiles needs to be communicated more widely than ever, according to a spokeswoman for the RSPCA.

Many people believe that leaving their pets alone for a few time will be acceptable, however, even a short time can be too long.

“Temperatures can rise to hazardous levels so quickly, putting canines in grave danger.”

“We advise people to call 999 if they observe a dog in trouble in a hot car.

It’s encouraging to see police departments like Nottinghamshire Police and others in England and Wales intervene when dogs require assistance in these potentially catastrophic circumstances.

For almost a year, 6-year-old Halo the Pit Bull mix couldn’t find a stable home with someone to love and keep her. Her previous owners surrendered the precious pooch to Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, after they broke up.

Halo took up residence with a foster family until a forever home could be found. One day, Lieutenant Mickey Curran of the Upland Borough Police Department happened to see Halo’s photo on Facebook. He knew she was “the one.”

“She had a snaggletooth and an underbite, and I said, ‘That’s the girl for us!‘” Curran stated. “I said ‘I know this is unorthodox but would you be OK with a police department rescuing a dog and with the dog living at the station?‘”

Though Tish Mayo, director of the rescue, never heard of such a situation, she thought the idea was awesome.

Halo was officially adopted and sworn in as an Upland police officer. She is the first and only rescue K-9 in the department’s history.

She will not be training as a drug dog or missing person dog, but she will provide a special service to the department. In her role, she will work as a community police officer, attend events and police meetings, and make people feel welcome when they visit the station.

“She’s legit,” Lt. Curran said “She took an oath and put her paw on the Bible and all.”

A tiny puppy that was all alone, hiding beneath a bench, was discovered by the D.A.R. Animal Rescue organization. People had walked by her and posted photographs of her on social media in hopes of getting assistance. However, no one actually stopped and picked her up and helped her themselves, to my surprise. She was so small and filthy with dirt on her coat It was amazing that she had been abandoned like that.

One of the DAR personnel went to assist the unfortunate puppy. She didn’t know why the baby had been abandoned in that way. This puppy was in a terrible situation and she wouldn’t have lasted long.

The rescuer wrapped her in a blanket and placed her in the car. It was time to take her to the veterinarian. The vet removed ticks that had consumed part of her blood after she lay on the examination table. They were in abundance. Her eyes were also inflamed, which was sad. Poor little thing She was also anemic from parasitic blood loss, being malnourished as well.

They had been working around the clock to treat the little puppy, who was in terrible condition. While no one can know what the future holds, her future appears much brighter now that she is safe and well cared for!

An Arizona resident with muscular dystrophy spends a lot of time at home and depends on his dogs for company and companionship.

When his dog of nearly ten years passed away, he was left devastated and lonely.

His other older dog also grew depressed since his sister’s passing. He figured that getting a younger dog would keep both him and his dog company, and would be a great addition to the family.

That’s when he decided to adopt Peanut, a dog who had spent 12 days in a high-kill shelter and was on the list for euthanasia.

When she first arrived at their home, she was very timid and afraid of everything. But within two weeks, Peanut was settling nicely into her new home and feeling way more comfortable.

In the video below, you can see just how much Peanut loves her dad. She is sitting on his lap, smothering him with kisses. She is beyond grateful that he rescued her from euthanasia and gave her a second chance at life!

This video will surely warm your heart as you watch the story of how Sgt. Jacob Fisher of the United States Marine Corps and one puppy saved each other.

Sgt. Jacob Fisher is active duty. He leaves his family to protect the freedoms of ours. While deployed in Afghanistan he discovered a tiny puppy in an animal cage. He immediately fell in love. He named him Jax and within a week decided that he would have Jax brought home.

While in Afghanistan Jax and Sgt. Jacob Fisher saved each other. In the video Sgt. Fisher states,

“Jax came along and lifted everybody’s spirits. It was amazing how something so small could just cheer you up when you’re having a bad day, within seconds of seeing him.”

When Sgt. Jacob Fisher arrived home from his seven-month deployment in Afghanistan he waited anxiously for Jax to arrive.

We all remember the old TV series Lassie, about a smart collie who is always able to save the day by alerting people of danger, like running for help when Timmy gets stuck in the well.

While it sounds far-fetched, it turns out the show isn’t too far from real life: we’ve seen many stories of real, quick-thinking dogs who have saved lives by running to get help during emergencies.

That was the case recently, when a heroic German Shepherd led police to the scene of a car crash, helping to save his owner.

According to New Hampshire State Police, on January 3 Trooper Sandberg and officers from the Lebanon Police Department saw a German Shepherd loose on the interstate.

They tried to take in the dog, but it ran off down the highway, crossing into Vermont. The officers followed — and soon realized the dog wasn’t running from them, but was trying to lead them somewhere.

They discovered a damaged guardrail, which led them to a badly damaged, rolled-over pickup truck:

Two occupants of the vehicle were found on the scene, ejected from the vehicle. They were alive but “hypothermic and seriously injured.”

It turned out that the German Shepherd, named Tinsley, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash — and the smart dog had run for help.

“It quickly became apparent that Tinsley led Trooper Sandberg and the Lebanon Police to the crash site and injured occupants,” New Hampshire State Police wrote on Facebook.

Thankfully, Tinsley was not hurt in the accident. The officers called for medical assistance for the injured men.

One of the men was Cam Laundry, Tinsley’s owner. He was proud of his dog’s quick-thinking, and wasn’t surprised she looked after him in his hour of need.

“She’s my little guardian angel,” Cam told CBS Boston. “It’s a miracle how she has that kind of intelligence to do what she did.”

“She never leaves my side,” he told WMUR. “So we’re always together in that truck that got wrecked she’s always my co-pilot, she’s always with me.”

And Tinsley continued to be there for her owner, even after saving his life: the “guardian angel” watched over him as he recovered from the incident.

“The whole time we were starting our patient care it sat there nice and calm right next to its owner,” said Captain Jack Hedges of Hartford Fire Department.

Thank you, Tinsley, for saving the day! We’re so glad everyone is alive and safe, thanks to this quick-thinking hero dog.

It’s a police officer’s duty to look out for everyone in their community, whether they be human or animal. We’ve seen many stories of officers going above-and-beyond to help pets in distress.

And sometimes, a rescue turns into something more: sometimes pets are adopted by the officers who save them.

That was the case last week, when one group of abandoned puppies found their forever homes in a true Christmas miracle.

According to the Tulsa Police Department, in Oklahoma, five puppies were found abandoned in a zipped-up duffel bag, left on the counter of a QuickTrip gas station.

Officers arrived on the scene — and the sight of the puppies on Christmas day left them “overwhelmed with Christmas feelings.”

The responding officers and the tiny pups made an instant connection, and then something miraculous happened: they decided to adopt the abandoned puppies themselves!

According to a Facebook post from the department, four of the officers — Officer Cordova, Officer Pashley, Officer Perry and Officer Johns — adopted four of the five puppies, while a QuickTrip employee adopted the fifth!

It’s heartbreaking to think anyone would abandon their puppies like this, but everything worked out in the end: these pups found good homes just in time for the holidays, and the officers went home with a very unexpected Christmas present.

Their good deed warmed hearts across the nation, providing a feel-good story for the holidays. The officers and their new pets appeared for an interview on the show Fox & Friends.

People praised the officers for their actions online. “Such a beautiful ending for this story,” one person wrote. “These officers are wonderful human beings! Thank you to all of them!”

In a follow-up post, the department says the puppies are “growing fast and doing great.”

“We’re so glad the pups have found a good home, and we can’t wait to watch them grow up!”

In addition, the department hoped the officers’ story would inspire people to adopt instead of shop — there are many puppies just like these in need of good homes.

“If you’re looking for a pet, please adopt don’t shop,” the department wrote. “There are lots of rescues and shelters that are over capacity for abandoned pets.”

Thank you to these officers for adopting these puppies! What a Christmas miracle.
