Gucci, a senior pup, was part of a hoarding case. He lived with 22 other dogs. Johanna, a 100-year-old woman, came to the states in 1950 from Germany.

The two meet and it’s true love at first smooch. Johanna tells us in the video that when she met Gucci, he immediately jumped onto her lap and gave her the sweetest kisses.

The story began when Johanna’s dog Rocky passed away. While no dog is replaceable, Johanna was lonely. There was now a missing piece in her life and she wanted nothing more than the company of a pup who needed a loving home. She had faith that her doggy soulmate was out there somewhere.

Gucci, who is 11 years old, was surrendered to the shelter. Muttville, a rescue organization, picked him up knowing senior dogs are difficult to place. He came to Johanna as a potential match and the two of them haven’t looked back.

To me, it’s not even a question or a debate: Every dog in the world deserves a warm and loving home! This is why it hurts so much to see abandoned dogs living on the street, fighting for their lives.

Fortunately, there are a lot of great animal rescue organizations out there. The people working with these organizations are true heroes, and they deserve all the praise in the world for dedicating their lives to rescuing animals in need.

In 2016, a concerned man contacted the animal rescue organization Hope For Paws and told them that she had found a tiny dog living alone in a shoebox.

Of course, the Los Angeles-based organization acted immediately.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found the poor pup sleeping in the rain on top of a shoebox. Seeing the dog in that poor condition crushed their hearts – it was like she knew no one loved or cared about her.

They then decided to lift the little Chihuahua up – and soon realized that she wasn’t like other dogs.

The dog, whom they named Princess, was missing one of her forelegs and didn’t look like she was able to walk properly. They wrapped her up in a towel, brought her to their car, and drove her to an animal hospital, where they gave her a warm bubble bath.

When the rescuers started investigating the case, they learned that the neighbors thought the dog belonged to the people next door. Apparently, the dog lived outside for five months before one neighbor realized something was wrong. That’s when the neighbor called animal rescue.

When they got the call, Eldad and Loreta from Hope for Paws went straight to the house to save the little dog. The homeless Chihuahua hadn’t felt loved for a long time, but Princess’ eyes lit up when the rescuers stroked her with love and promised to protect her.

It was evident that she needed immediate attention and care.

After Princess was cleaned up and had a hearty meal, a veterinarian examined her. It turned out, the little doggie was in surprisingly poor shape. She had severe anemia and diseases that left her constantly weak and tired.

Soon, Princess was running around on her three legs and seemed to enjoy the people around her. Then in March 2017, Hope For Paws was happy to announce that Princess had found a foster home.

A retired sheriff from Ohio and his K9 named Midge who passed away on the same day this month will be buried together.

At the age of 67, the retired Geauga County Sheriff Dan McClelland lost his battle with cancer. Just a few hours after his death, his 16-year-old chihuahua who served alongside him also passed away. The Burton Village Police Department announced the passing of McClelland, followed shortly by an update announcing the passing of Midge.

They said, “Dan will always be remembered as a kind, compassionate man who always put others first, even the people arrested…It’s truly amazing that one man could have such a positive impact on so many people. Sheriff McClelland, you didn’t just leave the sheriffs office a better place, this world is a better place.”

Midge worked with McClelland for 10 of his 13 years as Sherrif. The little pup was trained to sniff drugs and seemed to love her job as part of the K9 unit.

When most people think of police dogs, they probably envision strong German shepherds or Belgian Malinois, few would think of chihuahuas and they’d usually be right.

According to DailyMail, Midge is the first police dog of her breed to be officially welcomed onto the force.

Midge successfully passed her Ohio Certification as a Narcotics Dog on 7 November 2006 and was officially declared the world’s smallest police dog by Guinness World Records.

McClelland worked side-by-side with Midge, who proved to be an excellent partner, until 2016 when they both decided to retire together.

Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand took over McClelland’s former position. He shared with the Associated Press that McClelland was pretty sure Midge was so popular that no one remembered him. Hildenbrand said, “He used to joke that people would see him in a parade in a car and would say, ‘Hey, there’s Midge and whatshisname.’ I think she was more popular than him.”

Hildenbrand further shared how he, and others, were shocked at McClelland’s announcement to retire in 2016. He said, “He spent 44 years protecting people in this county and, quite frankly, he loved his job, every minute of it. I never thought he’d retire.”

McClelland made the decision to retire so he could travel the country with his wife and high school sweetheart, Beverly, and their beloved Midge. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with brain cancer just a few years after retirement. After a year-long battle with cancer, he passed away surrounded by family. Midge died hours later, presumably of a broken heart.

McClellend and Midge will be laid to rest together after their celebration of life on April 24, 2021. May they rest in peace.

There are so many dogs in shelters just waiting for their forever home. It can be a lonely place, and without any family to give them love they have to find their own comfort.

One photo showed the heartbreaking ritual one shelter dog went through every night—an image that won hearts all over the internet and led to him finally getting a happy ending.

A tiny chihuahua named Scooter ended up at the Humane Society of Branch County, a no-kill shelter in Michigan, for a heartbreaking reason: his owner passed away, and there was no one to take him in.

Suddenly he was uprooted from his old familiar life, living in a shelter. Even worse, Scooter was 12 years old and had a hip injury: senior dogs and dogs with disabilities tend to have a harder time finding homes.

Workers feared Scooter would spend the rest of his life in the shelter. But as he waited for someone to come along and give him a home, Scooter found a way to comfort himself every night:

He tucked himself into bed.

Scooter loved the comfort of his little dog bed and his blankets, but with no family to tuck him in at night he learned to do it on his own.

The shelter found wrapped up in his blanket one night and took a photo. They posted it online, hoping that maybe someone would be moved by his story.

People immediately fell in love. The photo went viral with over 3.5 thousand shares on Facebook… and miraculously, it was seen by just the right person.

Jessica Lynn Howard, who had previously rescued two other chihahuas from the shelter, saw the photo and was moved to tears.

“My husband Tim and I were lying in bed and it … brought me to tears,” Jessica told The Dodo. “Without hesitation I showed Tim and I said, ‘I have to go get him.’”

“When we arrived home Scooter met his new pack and family immediately,” Jessica said. “It was amazing, everyone greeted him as if he was a long-lost friend of theirs; they truly acted as if he had always been here.”

Scooter finally had a loving forever home. But while he finally had a family to tuck him in at night, some old habits die hard: Jessica says he still does it all on his own.

“When it’s bedtime … he still ‘tucks himself in,’” she said. “I’ve tried to tuck him in but he would rather do it himself. He has to get the covers just right. It’s really cute watching him.”

Jessica hopes the story inspires more people to adopt, and says it shows how a powerful image and story can go a long way in getting a dog adopted.

“If Scooter’s story can help inspire someone to adopt or to donate to the Humane Society of Branch County or their local shelter,” She told The Dodo. “It shows what one little senior dog can do.”

“He moved an entire world with just a single post! That is beyond amazing.”

Dan Smyers of pop duo Dan + Shay is a huge animal advocate. His Instagram bio even says, “I sing songs + save dogs.” So, when he decided to take in a tiny foster dog in addition to his four other rescue dogs, fans weren’t surprised, but they were still overjoyed. Dan and his wife Abby just can’t rest until they help as many dogs as possible.

Missy the 16-year-old Chihuahua only weighs two pounds, and she has a lot of health concerns. So, only days after agreeing to foster her, the couple knew she needed a loving retirement home. Now, she’s their fifth rescue dog!

Meet the Tiniest Little Senior

Dan found Missy at Wags & Walks Rescue in Nashville. It’s unclear what her story is, but she was emaciated with no teeth. At the shelter, she was terrified and alone, but Dan refused to let her live that way. He and Abby chose to foster the senior Chihuahua to give her a comfortable place to wait for her forever home.

“We’re glad this tiny pup is safe now and finally getting to feel love (possibly for the first time). She’s making great strides, and we even saw some tail wagging this afternoon. Once she is healthy again, we’ll make sure she finds the perfect forever home,” Dan wrote on Instagram.

In the photos Dan posted, it almost looks like the tiny little dog is smiling at the camera. She sure is grateful to be in a better place now. But it didn’t take long for sweet Missy to become a foster fail.

According to Dan’s Instagram page, they received some upsetting news when they took Missy to the vet. It’s unclear exactly what is wrong, but at her age, it’s common for a dog’s health to decline. No dog should have to go through that while still searching for a family, so Dan and Abby are now her permanent parents.

Never too Old for a Forever Family

Missy now has a comfortable, loving home to live out the rest of her life. She even has four dog siblings: Joy, Chief, Ghost, and Mac. The family is determined to make the remainder of this little dog’s life worth living.

“We have seen her come to life in the last week and are committed to providing her love and care as long as she is happy and not in pain, however long that may be. We are taking it day by day but I cannot express how rewarding it is to care for her. The highlight by far has been watching Dan’s heart for this two pound creature,” Abby wrote on Instagram.

Abby also added that while the dog’s name was Missy at the shelter, they frequently call her “Tiny” and “Little” as nicknames. Both Dan and Abby have vowed to share updates on Missy’s journey as the days go on.

This tiny senior rescue might not have many days left, but thanks to her new family, that time will be surrounded by love. She’ll never have to feel scared or alone ever again, and that’s what matters most.

It might have taken him 15 years, but senior Chihuahua Tito found a best friend who was worth the wait!

When Tito’s owner was hospitalized, he found himself in the care of a shelter in New Jersey. This wasn’t his first time homeless, but at the age of 15, it was likely to be his last. The kind people at Wise Animal Rescue were determined to bring his health up to par and make him comfortable – particularly Adoption Foster Coordinator Kristina Helfer. She fell in love with the tiny boy’s grey face and her heart broke when she saw the long history of medical issues Tito faced.

Tito has irreversible nerve damage that makes it impossible for him to move his back legs. When he was brought to the shelter he also had a collapsed trachea and an infected tumor that needed immediate attention. The shelter provided him with the care he needed to survive, which meant surgery, love, and time. For a little while things looked uncertain, but he recovered well and is doing much better!

The shelter staff wanted him to live out his life in the comfort of a real home, and he became the first dog in the shelter’s hospice program, Lola’s Legacy. Kristina Helfer was ready to take him into her home and Tito was happily welcomed by her two pitties, Frank and Piper.

Frank and Piper are both rescues themselves, and are experienced in making foster dogs feel at home! Frank has earned the nickname “Nurse Frank” for his empathetic nature towards dogs who aren’t at their best. With the love of his new family, Tito quickly recovered and bounced back from his medical issues! Helfer tells PEOPLE Pets:

“[Frank] has this weird intuition with dogs that are vulnerable and he takes to them and he is dad, he cares for them,”

The big Pit Bull and the tiny Chihuahua bonded immediately. Frank will even alert Helfer when Tito seems to need her attention. They spend their time together, snuggling and going for walks – made possible by the pouch that Frank carries his buddy in! They both have a blast on their strolls, you can see the joy in their faces as they walk together!

The family is also crossing off a few bucket list items while Tito is in their care, making the most of their time together. Tito has been to the Jersey Shore, gone out for ice cream, and occasionally stop for lunch on their walks.

These photos of Tito and his best friend Frank went viral after they were shared by Wise Animal Rescue. You may have seen them floating around the internet, or on The Dodo or People Pets!

Whatever life was like for Tito before, he got to spend the rest of it loved and in the company of the best friend a senior dog could hope for! On November 27, 2018, Tito passed, but he left his memory with his family, and now has someone to meet later on at the Rainbow Bridge. Frank and Piper continue to help care for and comfort other foster dogs.

We all have the perfect dog in mind. Some people adore active dogs so they can have a running buddy, while others prefer fluffy dogs to cuddle with. But any true dog lover knows that a dog shouldn’t be judged solely by their size or appearance. A dog’s personality is what should matter most when choosing a furry friend.

When Sheridan Oliver Martin asked her husband Sinclair for a Chihuahua, he instantly told her he didn’t like little dogs. But when she finally convinced him, his whole world changed. Suddenly, Sinclair fell in love with a tiny Chihuahua and started spoiling her like crazy.

Meet Pickles!

Sinclair was used to having big tough dogs like their Pit Bull and German Shepherd mix named Merlin. He assumed all small dogs were “yappy and mean.” But Sheridan grew up with small dogs, so she wouldn’t stop asking for a Chihuahua. Finally, Sinclair caved and told her she could get one for her birthday.

“I remember the whole week before and the entire car ride there he lectured me about how she was going to be my responsibility and my dog and he wasn’t going to have anything to do with her,” Sheridan recalled.

But then they adopted Pickles. The moment Sinclair met the Chihuahua puppy, he suddenly realized the stereotypes were wrong. Pickles was sweet and cuddly right away, so the couple couldn’t help but fall in love.

Suddenly, Sinclair took back all the bad things he said about Chihuahuas. He agreed that he would help care for Pickles as much as needed. And as it turns out, he wanted to take care of her more often than Sheridan did.

Love All Dogs

With Pickles around, Sinclair quickly realized you should never judge a dog by their looks or breed. The pup is so lovable that she even made him adore small dogs. He puts sweaters on her, wipes her muddy paws, and even tucks her into bed at night. It’s the complete opposite of what he expected to happen.

Pickles also became an excellent companion for Merlin. The little dog is active and loves to play with dogs that tower over her. She plays with Merlin on a daily basis, and he gets tuckered out well before she does. Her lively personality has even made other “small dog haters,” such as Sheridan’s dad, fall in love.

“Pickles has all the personality of a 100-pound dog in a 5-pound body,” Sheridan said. “She makes everyone laugh because she makes really funny human facial expressions, like she knows something you don’t know, or is smug, or just looks really, really happy.”

Sweet little Pickles makes more people fall in love with her every day. Many people tend to assume that they dislike dogs of certain sizes or breeds, but when it comes down to it, all dogs can be sweet and lovable with the right family. And it’s clear that Pickles has found the place where she truly belongs! Sinclair has even mentioned that he wants two more Chihuahuas now because of her.

Nathan and Alicia McNeese have a perfect, loving marriage. Yet, there’s one thing that often comes between them: their cuddly Chihuahua named Bristol. Nathan is Bristol’s favorite human, and she’s not afraid to show it.

Bristol often snuggles up to her human dad to show off their close bond. It’s almost as if she wants to make her mom jealous. But luckily, Alicia gets just as much of a kick out of it as everyone else. After all, Bristol is one silly pup!

Love at First Sight

Alicia said that Bristol fell in love with Nathan the moment she met him. The couple has at least two other dogs, but none of them are as obsessed with Nathan as the tiny Chihuahua is. Right away, she claimed him as her own. She made sure everyone knew it too.

“Her go-to person is my husband,” said Alicia. “The bond that they have is incredible.”

Every time Alicia tries to come in between Bristol and Nathan, the pup acts like a jealous girlfriend. She snuggles up right beside her dad and gives her mom a sassy glare. Alicia says it’s her “sorry Mom, he’s my man” look.

Bristol follows her dad everywhere, snuggles up on his shoulder, and even steals her mom’s spot in the bed. But Alicia is okay with it because she loves the little Chihuahua with all her heart.

Bristol Proves Her Devotion

In a popular TikTok video, Alicia captured a moment where Bristol’s jealousy shines through. At the start of the video, Alicia is in the car, resting her head on her husband’s shoulder. As soon as she lifts her head, Bristol jumps up from the back seat to steal her spot. She rests her head on her dad’s shoulder instead.

In the video, Alicia tries to rest her head back on Nathan’s shoulder, but the pup is visibly jealous. So, Alicia lifts her head again, and sure enough, Bristol takes her spot once again. The Chihuahua wants to make it clear that Nathan belongs to her and only her. Instead of getting mad at the spoiled pup, Alicia can’t help but laugh.

“I think she was thinking, ‘He’s my human. Move on over, Mom,’” Alicia said.

Most dogs have a favorite person, and they love to show their affection. Bristol’s devotion might be a little bossier than other dogs, but it’s clear that she has good intentions. Of course, she loves her mom too, but her dad will always hold the most special place in her heart.
