Benji, an unfortunate homeless dog, had spent his whole life trying to survive on the streets. He’d seek refuge under parked cars and feed from garbage cans. His tangled coat became a major source of discomfort for him – constantly itchy and painful – with no one to assist him in alleviating his suffering.

In this video, we see some rescue volunteers on a mission to save Benji. However, Benji hates the idea of humans chasing him. He instinctively runs away and hides, but the rescue team keep persevering.

After much effort, Benji lets one of the rescuers touch him. The woman could feel that the poor boy is in severe discomfort because of his fur. So she tries her best to win his trust. She finally wins Benji’s trust, and the dog walks to the rescuer and gets into the rescue van!

Benji was immediately taken to the shelter where the caretakers proceeded to shave off a lifetime’s worth of neglected fur. They were horrified to find countless tiny pests eating away at Benji’s skin at many places. It must have been a nightmare for him to endure the flea-infestation for so many years.

Benji later received his first bath and the caretakers washed away all the pests from his body. However, Benji was unusually quiet even after the rescue. It was almost as if his soul had “shut down” from his traumatizing life on the streets.

That’s when Benji’s foster mom and his foster siblings jumped in. With baby steps, the scarred dog learned to love his foster family, and even grew protective of his doggie siblings! What a transformation! We hope Benji finds a perfect forever home that understands his nature and loyalty!

A tiny puppy had lost his mom when a natural disaster hit the area. He cried out in desperation. He wanted his mama so badly. Thankfully a group of kind people came to his aid. He didn’t want to be touched at first, unsure of what their hands could do. But he settled down quickly and one of the rescuers was able to pick him up.

The puppy was placed in a safe spot and given fresh water. He was so thirsty! A kind man then placed him in the basket of his scooter and brought him to their shelter. The little puppy found a dark spot in a corner to hide in and stayed there until he felt comfortable enough to come out. But once he did, he couldn’t wait to eat!

The pup was given some toys to play with after his meal. He fell in love with a ball so they gave him another one! What a good boy! The fluffy fella played like a champ! After playtime, it was time for a nap. The puppy slept peacefully. We are so relieved this little one was found in time. Aren’t you?

An annual tradition at the Hoke County Animal Shelter is to serve all the homeless dogs in their care a proper Thanksgiving meal.

The food is prepared especially for the dogs without seasonings, turkey skin, or butter. Staff and volunteers help serve the meal comprised of turkey, rice, green beans, carrots, and pumpkin puree.

Members of the community are encouraged to partake in the special event by donating food or showing up at the shelter to take the dogs for walks and give them extra love.

This year’s meal was served on November 22nd and dogs big and small received a plate full of scrumptious food and lots of love.

The pups showed their gratitude by wagging their tails as they devoured it.

TikToker @wellbehaved1, also known as “Shelter Mommy”, posted a video of some of the dogs receiving their meals and it will melt your heart.

A table filled with the food was placed just outside the kennels and all the dogs- well, almost all – patiently waited for their snack.

A beloved pit bull named Wyatt thinks patience is overrated.

A follower asked, “Tell me Wyatt behaved himself and didn’t steal the other doggo’s food?” Wyatt was left alone for “5 seconds” and managed to knock over a tray of shredded turkey, which he immediately helped clean up.

The adorable video was posted for all to enjoy.

Maybe Wyatt just prefers to eat off the floor…

While the dogs were grateful for the extra attention and delicious food, what they want most is a loving home. The shelter is at capacity, like many animal shelters across the country, and desperately needs adopters and fosters.

Rocky Kanaka was back at it, and this time he’s decided to take a homeless dog named King to a pet store in order to purchase the pooch anything and everything he touches. King was abandoned after being struck by a car and losing his leg, but he’s doing really well now. He just wants a forever home, but first, there’s a canine shopping trip worthy of the title king!

Rocky goes to the local Petco, accompanied by King, in order to buy the dog everything he touches. And this is a dog who has never been in a pet shop before and has no idea what a toy is, so to put it mildly he was energized.

Rocky promised to buy the dog anything he touched, and he meant it. Even that enormous cat tower! What a kind thing to do for a dog in need!

A homeless man risked it all when he saw an Atlanta animal shelter go up in flames entering the fiery building to save the six dogs and 10 cats inside. Keith Walker is now being hailed a hero for rescuing the animals who were trapped inside with their time ticking away.

Keith, 53, said, “I was really scared to go in there with all that smoke. But God put me there to save those animals.”

The fire started in the kitchen of the W-Underdogs shelter leaving the building, while not completely destroyed, uninhabitable. But luckily, they were getting ready to move into their new facility in Atlanta in a week.

W-Underdogs founder, Gracie Hamlin, knows Keith Walker because he has a pit bull named Bravo and lets him sleep in the shelter every night. And because Keith was on his way to the shelter to pick up Bravo, he was able to see the flames and save the animals’ lives.

“He is my hero,” Gracie stated.

Hope For Paws received word of two homeless dogs roaming the streets trying to fend for themselves. They set out for rescue and arrived on scene to see that one dog was missing half of one leg, and neither trusted humans — especially men. Rescuers would ask a nearby resident if they could use their fenced yard to help prevent escape.

After some careful planning and tense moments, the dogs were finally cornered by a cheeseburger! The Lucky Leashes were applied, and all of the stress would be well worth it in the end. They named the injured boy Hudson and the other Lawrence, and they headed back to CARES for checkups.

Both dogs were in desperate need of baths and medical attention, and at the hospital they seemed to realize this was the best day of their lives! Hudson needed to have surgery to have his leg removed, and then they were ready to be fostered by Foxy and the Hounds. The friendly dogs just need that loving forever home now! 🙂

In Florida, a well known and liked homeless man was sitting on a park bench when he was severely beaten. It happened earlier this month and this week, he died from his injuries.

His name is Juan Diego Sebastian and after the assault took place, he never regained consciousness. As he was lying in a coma, his eyes filled with tears when his dog Cheeto was brought to hospice according to a neighbor from Arcadia.

“We put Juan’s hand on Cheeto and then Cheeto laid his head on his hand and it was the weirdest thing because tears started coming out of Juan’s eyes,” Tammy Ramos told WINK News.

Ramos was familiar with Sebastian and would even cook for him on special occasions. She spent two weeks in the hospital with the homeless man hoping that the injuries inflicted by the unknown assailant would not take a toll. Ramos was there when Cheeto was brought in to say goodbye.

When Sebastian was found on the park bench he had $16 on him. The report says that he made money collecting cans and selling them for food, both for himself and for the dog. A memorial was held on Thursday at the bench.

Sebastian and Cheeto could often be seen walking through the community. Locals admit that he had never bothered anyone and they have a hard time understanding why someone would have beaten him so severely.

“The homeless community, the ones that I deal with, they’re mostly senior citizens,” Ramos told WINK. “They’re vulnerable and it will happen again.”

Another neighbor adopted Cheeto because they wanted him to stay in the neighborhood.

Shannon Lorio tears up every time she recalls the catastrophic day when she nearly died in a car crash. On that fated day, Shannon was driving through the winding rural roads of Georgia when a sudden curve caused her to lose control of her vehicle. Her car crashed and her body plummeted down the adjoining wilderness, 100 feet away from the main road.

Shannon suffered severe head trauma on impact and she lost her ability to move. That’s when a homeless German Shepherd who was wandering nearby noticed her plight and came running to help. He tugged at her lifeless body and sensed that time was running out for the injured woman.

For the next several minutes, Shannon slipped in and out of consciousness as she felt her body being dragged out of the wilderness by the valiant German Shepherd. The disoriented woman knew the dog was standing by her side when a motorist eventually found her lying on the side of the road!

Thanks to a very timely ER treatment, Shannon made it out alive! The moment she gained consciousness, she began looking for the dog who single-handedly saved her from sure death. After spending days looking for the dog, Shannon finally found him and proudly christened him as “Hero”!

Shannon took Hero to the local Humane Society, where dog trainer Heidy Drawdy fell in love with Hero. Heidy adopted him and is now training him to be a search and rescue dog, something that he’s already good at! Way to go, Hero!
