Sometimes animals come into our lives in surprising ways. Many people have discovered stray cats or dogs, looking for love and a home of their own, asking them for help.

That was the case for one woman, who discovered a dog making himself at home on her porch, and made it her mission to find him a great new home.

Amy Haden got an unexpected surprise early one morning when her daughter told her that there was a dog on their back porch. At first, Amy didn’t think anything of this, because the family has two dogs of their own.

But she soon discovered the dog wasn’t one she had ever seen before — and the dog was happily making himself comfortable on her patio furniture.

“It’s like he had taken up residence,” Amy told Good Morning America, recalling the moment she found the dog waiting on a chair. “He completely made himself at home on the cushions, and he just never left.”

The dog was clearly comfortable where he was: day after day, the family found the dog still in the same place, refusing to move.

It was clear the dog needed a little help, so Amy began caring for the dog, and also began searching for his family, reaching out to the community, and putting posts on Facebook.

While other neighbors had seen him around town, no one claimed him, and he did not have a microchip. “No clue where he came from, where he had been or what he was called,” Amy said.

The dog became known as Walker (Amy said she let TikTok name him) and Amy’s family continued to care for him over the next few months.

However, they realized they weren’t the right “forever family” for Walker. Amy had two dogs of her own, and they didn’t get along with the new arrival. So instead, she started looking for a permanent home for Walker.

Thankfully, Amy soon found the perfect new owner for Walker, a “little old lady” who had been praying for a new dog.

“She was super sweet,” Amy told GMA. “She told us that she had been praying for a dog like him and that we were the answer to her prayers.”

This sweet dog definitely picked the right porch to cozy up on. Thanks to this kind family, Walker now finally has a loving home of his own.

It’s never too late for a dog to find a perfect new home. That was the story for Solovino, a deaf senior dog who found someone to love him after spending his whole life on the streets.

Solovino, whose name means “he came alone” in Spanish, spent the first decade of his life as a stray. But as he got older he got tired of wandering the streets of Southern California, and began staying on a woman’s porch.

The woman contacted Rocket Dog Rescue, a volunteer rescue group based in the Bay Area, and they took Solovino in. The rescue described Solovino, or “Solo” for short, as a sociable dog who “loves nothing more than to hang out with his people.”

“He is good with all ages of people, but he can be a little shy at first,” reads a post on the rescue’s Facebook group, saying that while Solovino is an “older fellow” he “can still move with the best of them.”

According to The Dodo, Solo spent time in a few foster homes after being rescued, but couldn’t find the right forever home: he had a few adoptions that didn’t work out.

But then, a woman named Carol Messina saw Solovino’s story online, she fell in love instantly. “As soon as I saw his face on their site, I wanted to love him,” Carol told The Dodo.

A huge Star Wars fan, she said she planned to alter his name to “Solo” after Han Solo, and when she found out that was already his nickname, she took that as a sign that it was meant to be.

“I knew it was fate,” she said. “Then when I met him and saw how sad he was, I knew he was going to stay with me forever no matter what.”

But it wasn’t so easy right off the bat: Solo was very shy and scared after arriving in his new home, still wary of people after a lifetime on the streets. And on top of that, Carol realized Solo’s health was worse than she thought: the senior dog was nearly deaf and had bad teeth problems.

But Carol didn’t give up on the dog: in fact, she postponed a minor surgery just so Solo could get his teeth fixed as soon as possible.

Over time, this once-scared senior dog adjusted to his new life, finally in a real home after spending so long as a stray. While he still had health issues, Carol was determined to give this sweet dog the life he deserved.

“The people who live around us are always commenting on how he doesn’t even seem like the same dog anymore,” Carol told The Dodo. “He didn’t smile or barely open his mouth even to pant for months, and now he smiles and rolls around and will run full-tilt across the lawn a dozen times a day.”

“I’m very proud of his progress. It is the best thing I have ever done with my life, and he has inspired me to get more senior dogs who need hospice care.”

We’re so glad Solo found such a loving home! It can be hard for senior dogs to find homes, especially those who have disabilities and medical issues, but it’s clear Solo’s new owner loves him just the way he is.

Some shelter dogs have to wait a long time before finding their forever home. It can be heartbreaking for them, seeing all the other animals go home to families while they’re passed over again and again.

So imagine being the very last animal left in the shelter. That was the case for one dog, who was left all alone and nearly gave up hope… until he finally got his own happy ending.

Capone, a Staffordshire terrier mix, spent years waiting at the Ionia County Animal Shelter in Michigan.

“We didn’t expect it to take this long to find someone that would open up their hearts to him,” shelter volunteer Sammie Vincent told FOX 17.

He was adopted at one point, but it didn’t stick: the family returned him to the shelter after a year, which broke the poor dog’s spirits.

“He lost quite a bit of weight as he just did not have the appetite he did in his home,” shelter director Carly Quinn told The Dodo. “It was very hard to get him to eat. We had to coax him daily with treats and assorted wet foods.”

“He was heartbroken.”

Capone’s luck didn’t get much better after returning to the shelter. People passed him by, and others expressed interest only to never show up.

Making it even more heartbreaking, it got to the point where Capone was the only animal left without a home.

“All the kennels were empty, except for sweet, quiet, kind Capone,” Carly recalled.

By early 2019, Capone was 7 years old and still had no takers. But the shelter didn’t give up, and doubled their efforts to find him a home.

They published the dog’s sad story on Facebook, hoping someone would open their hearts and adopt him. Amazingly, the post was seen by just the right people.

A woman named Ashlee Long and her husband John saw Capone and immediately fell in love: “I just like fell in love with his face right then,” Ashlee told FOX 17. “I like, didn’t know how he was the only dog left.”

They visited the shelter, and immediately hit it off—clearly Capone was ready to go home after all this time: “He just came up to us,” Ashlee said. “We both just kinda knelt down with our hands out for him, and he just came right up to us and started snuggling, wagging his tail, we just knew we had to take him.”

They took Capone home, and the dog gave a big, warm smile, knowing he finally had his forever family:

Capone’s friends at the shelter knew it was meant to be, and cried tears of joy watching their final dog leave the shelter at last.

“It was truly a tearjerker,” Carly told The Dodo.

How beautiful! It took a long time, but we know Capone will finally be happy in his new forever home. Never give up hope!

Cats are sometimes said to have “nine lives,” due to their ability to always land on their feet. But the same can be said about one dog, who bravely escaped from a burning home by leaping out the window from the second floor.

According to NBC Philadelphia, a man named Justin Steinmetz spotted a smoke-filled home in Fleetwood, Berks County while driving to work. The home had no people inside — the adults were at work and the kids were at school — and Justin frantically tried to get help.

He got another driver to call 911 and started trying to put the fire out with a hose, to no avail. Firefighters soon arrived to combat the flames.

But the situation took a dramatic turn after the family’s dog, Charlie, appeared in the home’s second-story window, desperately trying to escape.

The firefighters coaxed Charlie into jumping out the window, the only way to safety. In a dramatic moment captured on video by Justin, the dog makes a brave leap. While he had been charred by the fire, he made it out alive.

“He had a mouth full of smoke, lungs full of smoke, and he jumped to safety,” Justin told NBC. “He jumped when he needed to, that’s what matters.”

The family’s other dog, and their two cats, were also found on the scene after managing to escape the home.

While it’s great the pets survived, the homeowners, identified as the Stump family, “lost everything” in the fire. A GoFundMe campaign was set up to help them get back on their feet after losing their home.

“We are very grateful they are ok, but are painfully aware that their lives will be significantly impacted as a result of the devastating fire to their home today,” the site reads. The page has raised $40,000 for the family.

But Justin, who runs a farm and says he will be lending the family some baby goats for “goat therapy,” says the pets’ survival is a major silver lining.

“I feel blessed that the animals got out alive, that’s the big thing,” he told NBC.

What a dramatic escape from this burning home! We’re so glad Charlie is safe now, and are sending this family our thoughts and prayers as they recover from this devastating fire.

A yellow Labrador named Cleo went missing and was found in her owner’s previous home. Cleo was last seen in their Kansas home and a week later showed up in their former home in Missouri.

The new owner of the house, Michael and Britney were surprised when they saw the unfamiliar dog on their front porch.

‘She got out of her car and said, “Where did the dog come from?”‘ Michael told KMBC. They said that when they discover Cleo on their front porch she was nervous.

‘She wouldn’t let us quite come near her,’ Michael added. Later they know that their porch used to be one of Cleo’s favorite spots – more than two years ago.

Cleo was then brought to the vet and there they discovered that she had a microchip. After scanning, they discovered that Cleo belongs to the previous owner of the house.

Weeks earlier, Cleo’s missing act was posted by her owner. Michael then called Cleo’s owner and they were shocked where Cleo has been.

‘It’s the most bizarre story,’ Cleo’s owner, Drew, stated. ‘Really, she’s everything to us and my mother…It just feels good to be reunited with her.’

There are many things that I have come to understand in my thirty years of life. But one of the big mysteries that still completely baffles me is the fact that people can be outright cruel to animals.

Animals are some of the most precious and innocent beings – they deserve only love and compassion. But for whatever reason, some people think that it’s okay to treat them with such blatant disregard.

Odie was a poor dog who had suffered for 7 years. In that time, Odie had been chained up and starved to the point that he was just skin and bones. His owner was quite unreceptive to any form of help, and Odie was eventually confiscated by the rescue group, Sidewalk Specials.

They took him and gave him his first proper meal, which he inhaled within seconds – it was truly heartbreaking to watch knowing that he’d never received such care like this before.

Once he had eaten, the group then got him over to the Cape Town and Vet Point for medical attention. There, it was discovered that 9 of his teeth had rotted, and he was suffering from sinusitis plus a tick bite.

Odie had a long recovery ahead of him, but luckily for the sweet little pooch, there was a family who was willing to open up their hearts and his home to him. He was taken in by a caring family who gave him lots of love.

He even gained some new animal friends, such as other dogs, chickens, and even horses! Thanks to Sidewalk Specials’ persistence, Odie got his second chance.

We’re always happy to hear stories of people rescuing stray animals and giving them homes. But it’s even m ore remarkable when it’s another animal doing the saving.

Dogs have a remarkable intuition for when others are in need of help, and some remarkable footage shows how one dog stepped up and rescued a kitten in need.

A woman named Monica, from Abilene, Texas, is the owner of a little Yorkie mix named Hazel. On September 30, she let the dog out to use the bathroom, and noticed Hazel was out longer than usual, according to Happily.

She looked outside, and found Hazel… and realized she had made a friend:

Hazel was walking home with a tiny little kitten in tow. The dog would stop to let the kitten catch up and make sure she was still there, making it clear that Hazel was guiding her.

The kitten was a stray, and the weather was very rainy. Sensing she had no place to go, the compassionate dog decided to take her in and give her shelter.

It was a precious sight, and Monica caught it all on video.

The two new friends braved the puddles and finally made it home… but the kitten was so tiny she was unable to climb over the top step.

But in the most heartwarming moment, Hazel picked her up in her teeth so she could make it inside.

Not only did Hazel give the kitten shelter from the storm, she changed her life: bringing her in led to this stray finally finding a forever home!

Monica named the kitten Sheba, and while she didn’t keep her for herself she gave the kitten to her brother.
