Surely all dog lovers (and Corgi lovers especially) know about the Queen and her beloved Corgis. In her lifetime, Queen Elizabeth has had over 30 of these little herding dogs. Among them were also a few Dachshund/Corgi mixes (also called “Dorgis,” naturally.)

The Queen received her first Corgi, Susan, on her 18th birthday in 1944, and all her other dogs descended directly from her. The last of the family’s purebred Corgis, Whisper, died in 2018, and the Queen decided to stop breeding the dogs in 2015. In December of 2020, Vulcan the Dorgi died, leaving behind just one remaining royal Dorgi named Candy.

Two Unexpected Yet Unsurprising Additions To The Royal Family

In 2015, Monty Roberts, an informal adviser to the Queen, said she would not be getting any new pups because she didn’t want to leave them behind when she dies (she’s currently 94 years old.) However, the recent gift of two new Corgi puppies indicates her mind has changed on the matter.

These two new Corgis, whose names are not yet known, are the first of the Queen’s not to have descended from Susan. Despite Queen Elizabeth’s old age concerns, the new pups’ arrival has only been greeted with love and joy, a source told The Sun.

“The Queen is delighted. It’s unthinkable that the Queen wouldn’t have any Corgis. It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens.”

Obviously, the dogs in her life mean so much to her. And this breed in particular will always be the Queen’s favorite. Royal biographer Penny Junor also said:

“A few years ago it was decided she would have no more. But her Corgis are hugely important to her. They have over the years been closer to her than any human being. The Corgis are intensely loyal and loving and they have never let her down.”

Pups Comfort A Family In Distress

The Queen’s new dogs come into her life during an emotionally difficult time. The Duke of Edinburgh (99) has been in the hospital for a procedure relating to a pre-existing heart condition. The pups provide comfort to the Queen as her husband recovers and things remain largely under lockdown due to coronavirus.

“They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home. Both are said to be bringing in a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in hospital.”

It’s fair to assume they’ll live a great life, the most spoiled a dog could be. Even a Queen needs doggie licks and cuddles.

Gaining quite a bit of popularity on social media is an adorable little corgi named Nekku. But she’s not your average corgi, she’s got a birth defect that has led to a very unique appearance. Instead of one nose, this pup has two! But she’s only got one eye. In addition, she also has two fused vertebrae.

When she was born, both the vet and the breeder believed that she should be put to sleep because of her defects. However, Jarmo Korhonen from Finland saw her and wanted to give her a chance. He bought the pup and brought her into the fold of his family, which included two other corgis, Niisku-Neiti and Karkki.

Nekku has grown up to be a happy corgi, now 8 years old, who is living her best life in the Finish countryside. Her owner, a 38-year-old researcher, has already shared that some people have joked that the pup’s name should’ve been Beretta because of the appearance of her two noses like a double-barreled shotgun.

Jarmo has also stated that when walking with Nekku in the city, they get stopped a lot. People love to stop and ask the owner questions about his dog – particularly about her two noses which give her such a unique appearance. But people seem to like her, the owner observed.

Even her fellow dog siblings seemed curious about her birth defect. According to Ladbible, the owner shared that when Nekku was a puppy and he first brought her home, he’d often catch Niisku-Neiti staring at the little pup’s face.

Jarmo further elaborated about Nekku’s origins. Apparently, she came from parents who were show dogs and did quite well in their circuits. The two were bred with the intent of producing strong and healthy pups. However, something clearly didn’t go right with Nekku. But that was okay because Jarmo loved her anyways.

He shared that the breeder didn’t think she’d last long after birth, or if she did, that she’d have a very difficult life. The vet also was not convinced that she’d be able to lead a normal life. But Jarmo wanted to at least try, so he didn’t pursue the suggestion of euthanasia.

Nekku has since retired to the countryside where she lives with Jarmo’s mom. The pup still gets regular playdates with Niisku-Neiti and Karkki. And despite the expectations set out for her at the beginning of her life, Nekku has continuously defied the odds.

Jarmo made the decision to let Nekku live in the countryside with his mother so that she could roam freely since she regularly has trouble with depth perception and would often end up hitting or bumping into things with her head. It worked out to be a decent move, since Jarmo’s mother is delighted to have the corgi with her.

She continuously lives her life to the fullest, and all her countryside adventures get documented on her Instagram page, alongside her siblings.

Remember hugs? Remember showing warmth and affection by wrapping your arms around a friend? These days, hugging is much less of a common occurrence. But luckily for all of us, doggies can still safely hug other doggies.

In fact, hugging other dogs just so happens to be a favorite activity of a little 1-year-old Corgi named Wallace. He likes to stop and give a squeeze to any willing dog he passes on his daily walks. Wallace is nothing but gentle, and both canines and consenting humans alike get to enjoy his furry hugs.

Raminick, Wallace’s brother, told The Dodo his dog is just a social butterfly.

“He’s the biggest sweetheart. [Wallace]’s always very happy to be around people and other dogs. He loves to give face kisses to people and when he sees another dog, he’s always the one to initiate a play session.”

He especially loves to snuggle his best friend, a Great Dane named Daisy.

“They always hug when they see each other. And one of her paws weighs as much as Wallace’s entire body.”

As a breed, Pembroke Welsh Corgis are known to be very affectionate. They’re also a very huggable size, weighing no more than 28-30 pounds as adults.

Many might jump to say his humans taught Wallace this “trick.” But the truth is: this adorable behavior is all Wallace, his brother says.

“The thing I find interesting with his hugging is that he wasn’t trained to do that at all. I think it comes down to him being really excited about playing with another dog.”

You can see the excitement all over his smiling face! His family is just glad their pup makes other people and dogs happy every day.

Just A Happy Go Lucky Guy
Given that he’s the hugging type, it shouldn’t surprise you that Wallace loves just about everything and everyone. He brings so much joy to his family and neighbors.

“His favorite things are morning and evening cuddles, playing fetch and me chasing him around the house. I don’t think Wallace has any dislikes.”

I sure wish I lived along Wallace’s walking route. I miss hugs, but I’m happy to see someone gets the physical intimacy they deserve every day!
