It was late evening when the staff at “The Dog Rescuers” received an urgent call about a crying puppy who was left to die in a dumpster in Pasadena. A rescue team immediately rushed to the location, only to find that the weeks-old puppy in a much more stressful situation than they had expected.

The puppy was suffocating and in acute physical pain, so the rescuers quickly took him to the PETSADENA Animal Hospital. It was already closing time for the hospital, but the vet, Dr. Evelyn, knew the dying puppy wouldn’t last much longer without medical intervention. She assembled her team and they hooked the puppy up to life-saving medicines. After a detailed examination, Dr. Evelyn finally figured out what was killing the puppy – chicken bones.

An X-ray revealed chunks of chicken bones and splinters blocking the puppy’s stomach and intestines. Dr. Evelyn and her amazing team spent the rest of the night painstakingly picking out the bone pieces from the puppy’s internal organs one by one. By morning, they were all heavily exhausted – but their tireless hard work had pulled the puppy out from the verge of death!

The puppy is now named Roscoe, and this video documents his arduous survival journey as he eventually finds the best forever home. Roscoe is indeed one lucky little guy! While details about Roscoe’s previous owners are not known, his story is a reminder for all owners to avoid feeding hard bones to fragile young puppies. Put the word out and keep your pets safe.

A Texas family is devastated after they were forced to say their goodbyes to their beloved dying dog after they believe he was poisoned.

When Bear lost his appetite, his owner, Gino Hernandez, knew something was off. He kept a close eye on him, but when Bear hadn’t improved after a couple of days, he rushed him to the emergency room.

That’s when he and his wife were informed by vets that Bear was likely poisoned, and that there was nothing they could do about it.

The three-year-old dog’s kidney levels were extremely high, which doesn’t happen naturally to dogs that young, leading vets to believe that someone did this to him.

Bear was in pain and struggling for days while vets did everything they could to save him. After staying at the hospital for three days with no progress, the family had to make the difficult decision to put him down.

The family suspects their neighbor is the one who poisoned Bear, since she has threatened to kill and poison Bear in the past.

They are now seeking answers and plan on hiring a lawyer to seek legal action, but nothing will ever bring back their furry best friend.

A dog named Pumba lived most of his life not knowing what love was. His former “family” had used him for breeding, but they never treated him like he was a family member. Instead, they continued to breed him as much as they could. He hadn’t been allowed to go for walks and play with dogs, so he eventually lost mobility in his legs. Sadly, his humans no longer had a use for him in their breeding business. They abandoned him, despite his inability to move on his own. Poor Pumba was scared, lonely, and confused. But luckily, help was on the way.

Pumba’s Second Chance

Animal Aid Unlimited in India was alerted to Pumba’s location. They rushed to save him without hesitation. It took many volunteers to carry the gentle giant from one place to the next, but Pumba was definitely worth it. The organization was determined to get him back on his feet.

The first step for Pumba’s road to recovery was hydrotherapy. It seemed like the poor pup had never even gone for walks before because he had no muscle tone at all. So, he had to be introduced to exercise slowly. Staff members held him in the water as he paddled his legs. This helped him build up strength in his muscles.

Eventually, all Pumba’s hard work paid off. In fact, he seemed to enjoy being in the water. Although, he loved attention more than anything else. Through his journey, he quickly learned what it felt like to be cared for.

Walking Again!

After about 6 weeks, Pumba learned to walk around on his own. He still needed a little help getting up, but once he was on his feet, he could move just like any other dog. He only continued to improve from there.

The staff at the shelter believe that Pumba has also never played with another dog before. The more he walked around, the more curious he seemed around the other dogs. But whenever a dog tried to play with him, he didn’t know how to react. However, he still seemed happy to be there. Every new experience was exciting for him, no matter how small.

Despite Pumba’s incredible recovery, he still doesn’t have a forever home. The shelter wants to make sure he finds a family that’s perfect for him. His new family will promise to never keep him chained up again. They should also be able to give him at least two hours of exercise and playtime each day to help him stay healthy. Pumba has been through so much, so he deserves a family that will treat him like royalty.

Passerby Sees Small Dog Locked Inside an Abandoned Vehicle

A woman out and about in Humboldt County noticed an abandoned vehicle on the side of the road. She was surprised to find a small dog locked inside the car. She did the right thing and reported the situation to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. Officers came to the scene and freed the frightened dog. They got right to work determining who owned the vehicle and who the little dog belonged to as well.

Police Department Discovers the Dog’s Human has Passed Away

The police department’s investigation lead to an eye-opening discovery. The human companion of the found dog had actually died by suicide. According to social media comments, the man left his car to commit suicide, leaving the dog locked inside.

Local Animal Shelter Locates the Dog’s Next of Kin

Humboldt County Animal Shelter took possession of the orphaned dog and got right to work. They learned that the dog’s name was Banks. They were able to track down the next of kin, who live outside of the area where the dog was found. The relatives informed Humboldt County Animal Shelter that Banks was about 15 years old. Unable to take the dog in themselves, they asked the shelter to find Banks home to live out his golden years.

Humboldt County Animal Shelter Remembers a Potential Adopter

Shelter staffers work tirelessly to match dogs with the best possible adopters. In this case, the shelter’s assistant Jeanette Duncan remembered an already-qualified applicant who was looking to adopt a “nice senior dog.” Meredith Maier is the co-owner of a local dog-friendly eatery called Six Rivers Brewery. Meredith was super excited to receive the call about Banks, his story, and his need for a new forever home.

“We are so very proud and touched to do the work that we do here at the shelter providing a safe landing spot for so many pets in need and either getting them back to their owners or on to their new lives,” Duncan wrote on Facebook.

Congratulations to Banks, Meredith, and the Humboldt County authorities for creating the best possible outcome from this sad situation.

A dog rescue in Cartagena, Columbia, called Manejo de Fauna Callejera, received a call regarding a very sick and weak dog who had been abandoned in a garbage dump.

The poor pup was unable to move and had been there for several days before she got help.

Rescuers immediately went to the area to help this tiny dog, who they named Carbonella.

Upon closer examination, they realized just how bad Carbonella’s condition was. Not only was she extremely malnourished, but she also had open wounds all over her body and suffered from nasty mange that made her lose most of her hair.

Within her scabby skin were mites and a staph infection, which was extremely painful.

Rescuers rushed her to the vet for further testing and treatment. In addition to being malnourished, she was also dehydrated and suffered from severe anemia.

Despite the awful life she’s lived at the hands of cruel people, she was still very friendly, sweet and trusting of humans.

After being treated at the hospital, she was brought to a local rescue, where she was finally able to sleep in warm bed and play with other dogs.

From there, she went on to live in a loving foster home, where her personality blossomed. Soon after, she was adopted into an amazing family, where she is extremely happy and looks like a whole new dog!

It is unimaginable to consider how confused a dog must be if his owner dies and he winds up all alone at an animal shelter. There’s no way to explain to a dog that their owner passed away and why they now live in a kennel. That’s what happened to Charlie, a nearly 8-year-old Mastiff who tips the scales at 174 pounds. Charlie’s former owner taught him many tricks and the pooch has a wonderful personality.

“Unfortunately, his owner passed away and there wasn’t anybody in the family that could take him and that’s how he ended up here and I just love him,” according to Kathy Zerkle, the Medical Director at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

What makes Charlie extra special is the length of time he has spent at the shelter. Since he was transferred to Rancho Coastal from Chula Vista, he is the resident who has stayed the longest at the shelter. Zerkle says true happiness won’t happen until Charlie finds his forever home. Since the story ran on CBS8 News, someone special jumped at the opportunity to adopt Charlie.

Dozens of applications came in, but one stood out over all the others. Tim Yenatar met Charlie when he was a puppy and lived with his previous owner. Tim became the woman’s caretaker and pitched in with Charlie. Since he couldn’t keep Charlie when his owner passed away, Animal Control hauled the pooch off. Tim saw Charlie’s story and knew he wanted to adopt him.

“He’s a one in a million dog and has the personality of your best friend,” Tim said as he and Charlie rolled around together on the ground. Charlie knew him immediately and remembered him. Some things are just meant to be.

Patrick “PJ” Otis wasn’t home when his house in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin burst into flames. Yet, his first thought wasn’t about his belongings or even the home itself. Instead, he was worried about his 14-year-old rescue dog Darma, who was still inside.

Luckily, Otis didn’t have to worry for long because help was on the way. Joe Loduha, a former emergency medical technician, stopped to help. He fearlessly ran into the house to save Darma. Yet, he claims that he’s not a true hero because he was just doing the right thing at the right time.

A Good Samaritan

Loduha was driving to a carpentry job nearby when he spotted Otis’ home on fire. He didn’t know Otis personally, but he felt compelled to stop and see what was going on. Some neighbors were already outside calling 9-1-1, so Loduha asked them if anyone was inside.

The neighbors were unsure if any humans were inside, but they knew there was a dog inside. That was all Loduha needed to hear. As long as there was a living creature inside, he had to do whatever he could to save them.

Loduha broke through the front door because the flames were coming out the back of the home. When he got inside, he saw Darma relaxing on the couch. She stayed calm, and looked at Loduha as if she wanted him to take her for a walk. Loduha carried her outside and handed her to a neighbor.

I didn’t feel like I was in imminent danger of death at any point,” Loduha said. “The front door was open.”

Yet, his mission wasn’t done after that. He ran back inside not long after, checking the other rooms for signs of life. He called out ‘fire’ repeatedly. But when he opened one door and smoke burst out, he knew it was time to retreat.

The Ultimate Act of Kindness

Loduha had some cuts on his leg from breaking down the door and he had inhaled an excessive amount of smoke. Luckily, a medical team came to the rescue right away, and of course, Loduha wouldn’t have done things any differently.

When Otis returned home, he could not fully express how grateful he was for Loduha’s quick-thinking. Otis didn’t care that his house was in flames. All that mattered is that no one got hurt. Now, he wants to find a way to pay Loduha’s kindness forward. Loduha was moved by Otis’ selfless reaction.

“It struck me that this is how real people should feel,” said Loduha. “These are just material things, and he didn’t care at all, like less than I probably would have.”

The Wauwatosa and Milwaukee fire departments were able to get the fire out in 30 minutes. But unfortunately, Otis’ home is in rough shape. The Red Cross of Wisconsin is currently helping Otis and Darma find a place to stay in the meantime.

Loduha might not consider himself a hero, but he saved a rescue dog’s life that day. Items can be replaced, but a dog’s life cannot. So, he should receive much more recognition than he’s giving himself.

Joey King, star of The Kissing Booth, recently took to Instagram to announce the passing of her dog, Charlie. The heartwrenching post was all too relatable for dog parents around the world.

“I had to say goodbye to my little man today. Charlie was my goofy sidekick for 15 and a half years and I’m so thankful for it. I love you Charlie forever and ever. I’ll miss you and your warm cuddles always.”

King included a slideshow of pictures showing her precious relationship with Charlie over the years. It’s evident that Charlie was truly by her side since she was a little girl. As you probably know, there’s nothing quite like the bond between children and their pups.

Charlie And King Literally Grew Up Alongside Eachother

With Charlie being nearly 16 years old, that means King and Charlie have been sidekicks since King was about 5. Charlie has been at the center of her world from Kindergarten and the simple days of childhood all the way through her rise to stardom.

Sweet little Charlie was by her side while she celebrated birthdays, navigated her first heartbreaks, and launched her career. He even took part in photoshoots! Charlie was the truest definition of a best friend.

People From Around The World Have Expressed Their Condolences

King received tons of support from fans and fellow celebrities. The post has gained nearly 3,000,000 likes as comments of condolences continue to pour in.

Millie Bobby Brown, best known as Eleven from The Stranger Things shared her sympathy.

“I’m so sorry Joey. its so unbelievably hard [heart emoji].”

Even Katy Perry chimed in. She knows the feeling all too well as she recently had to say goodbye to her own doggo.

“I didn’t wanna like this cause I don’t like this [sad emoji] [heartbroken emoji].

Saying goodbye to a family member is never easy. Take one look at King’s Instagram and it’s apparent that she has a deep love for all dogs.

King’s Love For Dogs Runs Deep

In addition to Charlie, King is a proud dog mom to Angel, a tiny Yorkie, who she spends a lot of her time with. There’s also Dallas, an adorable Golden Retriever with a distinguished white snout. Plus there’s an adorable floppy-eared guy that makes an adorable appearance every once in a while.

The loss of Charlie will surely be felt for a long time. Luckily King has other doggos to help her grieve. After all, puppy snuggles are often the best medicine for a broken heart.

Mike LaSalvia left his vacation in Mexico to return home early to Ohio after watching his Pit Bull, Leo, get kicked and dragged across the floor on a webcam of the doggie daycare where he had been staying. Tails R Waggin Doggie Daycare has 3 locations in the Akron area and Leo was staying at the one in Tallmadge.

Leo has stayed at this particular doggie daycare several times without any problems, but when LaSilvia rewound the webcam tape on December 15, he was appalled to watch a daycare worker kick Leo twice and drag him across the floor by his collar. The dog dad called his sister to pick up Leo and immediately left Mexico to head home and reunite with him.

The owner and founder of Tails R Waggin, Rebecca Brockmeyer, told FOX8 that the woman in the video was the franchise owner of 2 Tails R Waggin locations, including the one Leo had been staying at. Her franchise agreement has been revoked since this video came to light and she is banned from the property.

Brockmeyer released a statement in an attempt to reassure other clients that this type of behavior will not be tolerated from any employees. She said:

“I conclude my statement with a plea to the public to not group this entire company and all its amazing staff members in with one incident that none of them had any involvement in or participated in. We are working on a quick and effective resolution to ensure this never happens again at one of our facilities.”

That’s not enough for LaSilvia, who plans to file a police report.

In another twist, the woman in the video released a statement on Monday attempting to explain her actions. Here it is in full:

“The video clip now circulating on the internet of an incident that occurred in our Tallmadge location shows me handling a dog roughly.

I agree that the video itself, viewed without context, is very disturbing. I want my fellow dog-lovers to know the rest of the story directly from me.

At the beginning of the video, as I let the pit bull out into the common area, it immediately approached another dog’s back. The pit bull’s hair was standing up and he was low-growling – three very distinct signs of an impending attack. It was at that very moment that I made a split-second decision to subdue the pit bull for the protection of myself and the two dogs. In the emotion of the moment, I was scared and reacted instinctively.

I have worked with dogs for 9 years and I have seen the horrific damage a dog-on-dog attack can cause, and I moved quickly to shut-down that possibility.

I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am for the heartache this has caused the pit bull’s owner and family, as well as our clients.

I just feel awful about what happened.
