No one is quite sure what Asya’s life looked like before Elena got to her, but it’s safe to assume it wasn’t pleasant.
When rescuer Elena approached the timid pup, Asya coward, and tried to hide. She shyly peeked her head out to look at the people approaching, clearly terrified of what was going to happen next.
As Animal Shelters shared in the video below, using a lot of patience and gentlness, Elena finally got the shy and scared dog to come out of hiding.

Elena has worked with a lot of rescue dogs and immediately recognized something wasn’t quite right about Asya. The dog seemed to have several wounds and walked in a circle. Elena suspected she was suffering neurologically but wasn’t exactly sure what was going on.
She quickly got the dog to a veterinarian for a proper exam and discovered the poor pup had a deformed skull, likely due to a blow to her head. Beyond that, part of her brain was missing and that area was filled with fluids!
Whatever had happened to Asya wasn’t good, but she wouldn’t have to suffer any longer. Elenor worked with the vet to make the sweet dog comfortable and get her stable and safe.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before Asya was discharged from the veterinarian’s office and got to go home with Elenor and experience life with a loving family for the very first time.
Asya became quite the loving, playful dog and after a while, she was hardly recognizable from the timid, terrified dog Elenor rescued!
