There are two things that we can all agree on and that’s that dogs are family and nurses have the biggest hearts. I’m willing to venture out on a limb and say if you’re reading this, you’ll agree. This story that you’re about to read will bring a tear to your eye. Go ahead and get the tissues ready!

Luckily for one Missouri man, he found a group of nurses that had hearts of pure gold. David King had been battling cancer for several years. Towards the end of 2017, he knew his time was running out. King had the opportunity to say goodbye to his human family members, but something was missing. It was Lil Fee.

Lil Fee was King’s beloved Yorkie mix. The two went everywhere together! Naturally, King wanted to say goodbye to Lil Fee for the last time. Sadly, the hospital had a strict no-pets policy. One may argue that dogs are more than “pets,” but there was no time for debate.

Some Rules Are Meant To Be Broken
Ellie Miguel, King’s granddaughter, told YahooLifestyle, “(My grandpa) spent about a week in the hospital, and my grandma brought pictures of the dog to hang up.”

Pictures weren’t quite enough. Unsure whether he would be able to make it back home, King’s wife, Cindy, decided to take matters into her own hands. Thankfully some nurses know that some rules are meant to be broken.

“The nurses always heard my grandma talking about Lil Fee. So they encouraged her and helped her get the dog in. They had my aunt carry the dog in a really big purse,” Miguel said.

So, with the help of some incredibly compassionate nurses, a large purse, and a patient little pup, King got to snuggle his baby one last time.

One Last Goodbye
Miguel was just 17-years-old when she shared the heartwarming story on Twitter.

“My grandpa is losing his battle with cancer so the nurses helped my grandma sneak their dog into the hospital to say goodbye,” Miguel wrote.

The post quickly went viral as doctors and nurses even agreed that they did the right thing!

King was so overjoyed at the sight of Lil Fee that he tried moving his arms for the first time that day. His family says that it was a moment they will never forget.

David King took his last breath the very next day. Thanks to a tribe of caring nurses and family, and one tiny dog, he was able to die at peace with the love of his best friend.
