Big Strong Shelter Pooch Loves Being Tucked In Like A Baby Each Night

Prince is a big boy with an even bigger bark. Like many Pit Bull-type dogs, Prince’s looks – and voice – can be deceiving.

The handsome pooch currently resides at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in New York where he has been awaiting his forever home for six months.

Each night, before he heads off to Dreamland, Prince climbs onto his bed and waits patiently while a staff member wraps him in a blanket, rubs his belly, and tucks a favorite toy by his side.

Prince’s original owner was unable to care for him and passed him on to his girlfriend. While out for a walk in April he slipped his leash and was picked up by animal control. The shelter tried to reunite Prince with his mom, but she never came to claim him.

According to MHHS spokeswoman Marguerite Pearson, Prince was terrified when he first arrived at the shelter.

“He stayed curled up in a ball, shaking in the back of his kennel,” she told Inside Edition. “Staff and volunteers started working with him, and slowly but surely, he came out of his shell.”

Prince’s new friends at the shelter have been teaching him basic obedience and social skills to prepare him for adoption.

“[Staff has] been taking him on outings and showering him with affection, which he loves. And he gives it right back,” Pearson said. “He’s very smart and people-oriented.”

Prince is 2-years-old, and would do best in a home where he is the only pet. Pearson added that once he gets to know a new human “his loving personality shines and he becomes a real love bug.”
