Ashley Boggs had been driving down a highway in Puerto Rico when she came to a blockage in the road. The cars in front of her were halting and restarting. As she got closer, she saw a dog with a couple puppies behind her, trying to draw attention to their peril.

Boggs, who happens to work for Miracles for Satos Rescue, realized that the mama dog was nursing, so she followed her, knowing that there were likely more in the litter. As Boggs entered the lush green forested area to the side of the road, she was directed by yelps, to find four more little ones who had been dumped from a crate.

The video here shows the miraculous rescue of the mother dog and her six offspring. It might bring tears to your eyes.

“I was surprised that there were so many,” Boggs said. “I was also sad because I knew that they wouldn’t have survived if I hadn’t found them. There was no food or water left, and they were in a very secluded area. It is joyful and sorrowful all at the same time. They were just so adorable.”

“Goji,” as the mama dog was named, expressed her gratitude to Boggs with snuggles and kisses.  “The mom is such an angel. She is very loving and enjoys it when people come in and pet her. The puppies are extremely playful. They love to play with the volunteers and tug on the shoe laces.”

Two of the little ones have already been adopted. Boggs is confident that all, including Goji, will find permanent  homes.

As a child, Jessica Woodruff loved animals. Now, she has to deal with the most tragic moment of her life when her barn was on fire.

On February 9th 2017 Jessica’s barn caught fire accidentally. The fire killed many animals including four goats, a pig, and seven puppies. The puppies were 3 weeks old when the incident happened.

As soon as the fire broke out, the mommy dog Daisy, a Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix, tried to run into the barn to save her pups. But the fire had spread too quickly and Jessica had to hold Daisy back, lest she ended up losing Daisy to the fire too.

The fire spread so fast and big that everything was over within minutes. There was nothing Jessica or Daisy could do, and it broke their hearts. Over the next few days Daisy plunged into depression, and she would walk over to the burnt down barn repeatedly and whine for her puppies. Watching Daisy in so much emotional pain destroyed Jessica. She knew she had to do something before she lost Daisy too.

Jessica’s sister Jacque Barnett put up a post on Facebook looking for orphan puppies they could foster. Coincidently, a woman named Lorna Murphy’s 5-year-old dog Chloe had passed away after giving birth to 8 puppies.

The women on both sides decided to change their tragedies into happiness for their dogs, and a meeting was quickly set up so Daisy could be introduced to the new-born puppies. Daisy’s maternal instincts immediately kicked in and she began feeding the puppies.

Daisy took care of the puppies for several weeks until they were all weaned. Most of the puppies were returned to their owner, except the runt of the litter, who they named Benji.

We’re so happy Daisy found some happiness after her terrible loss, and Lorna’s puppies found a new mommy after theirs had passed away.

With many cases in animal rescue, timing is critical. One ticking clock scenario is when rescuers have the chance to save newborn puppies. The first few weeks of a puppy’s life are critical, and proper nutrition is essential to their well-being and growth.

When an abandoned female dog gave birth on the streets in 2020, the people who discovered her knew they had to act quickly if they were going to save the whole family. After birthing a litter of six, the mama dog was utterly exhausted. She didn’t have the strength to care for her new babies.

Sadly, two of those puppies didn’t make it. Rescuers were going to make sure the others avoided that tragic fate.

Poor Mom Doesn’t Trust Her Rescuers

Gathering the dogs proved difficult, with the scared, worn-down mother dog showing signs of aggression towards rescuers. They figured she was abandoned a while ago, though she still wore a collar.

Abandoned dogs often develop fear aggression and anxiety, through no fault of their own. This traumatized mama snapped at rescuers as they worked to collect the pups. They sensed her fear and knew she didn’t trust strangers.

Eventually, though, they got the whole family off the street. The four puppies had a rough start to their lives, but at least they all had each other to lean on.

A Hungry Family Eats Again

Once the rescue provided the mama dog with some proper nutrition and water, she regained her strength. She was then able to feed her puppies the milk they desperately needed. For the first four weeks, their mother’s milk is the only nutrition puppies receive.

With enough food to fill their bellies, the pups, previously unable to fend for themselves at all, eventually grew bigger. Not long after, they opened their eyes for the first time. Mama dog remained “skittish,” but felt much better with food of her own to eat.

If rescuers got to these dogs much later, who knows how many of the puppies would have survived. Not to mention, life on the streets is tough for any adult dog too. This mom was probably starving before she even gave birth to her litter.

Milo the dog knows heartbreak. But like any soul who has experienced loss, she appreciates the joy that fills her life now.

At a gas station near Arizona’s border to Mexico, Milo was scrounging out an existence, but she had no real home and often knew the pains of hunger. She was also pregnant when Sunshine Dog Rescue found her, yet she seemed in pretty good shape for being a rural stray dog.

Things were looking good for Milo. She’d have some puppies and then be on her way to a forever home once they were weaned. But tragedy struck the mom-to-be.

Milo went into premature labor and her puppies were just too young to survive. Anita Osa, executive director of Sunshine Dog Rescue, shared, “While my heart hurts for the puppies that never got to run and play, my heart is so very sad for Georgia.”

Though she was healing physically from an emergency c-section and spay, the heartbroken mother dog was frantic for her babies. “We found her tearing her mattress up looking for them.”

Anita and Sunshine staff did everything they could think of to console Milo, even giving her a stuffed puppy with a heartbeat to ease her grief. It helped some, but the poor dog still mourned her loss.

An Idea to Help A Grieving Mom

To help Milo out, Anita took to Facebook searching for orphaned newborn puppies. She didn’t find any puppies, but she did come across kittens in need of a mother.

“I was certainly unsure,” admitted Anita. “But I had seen other species nurse another species before, so I thought worse case scenario she doesn’t take to them and I have some kittens I need to tend to myself.”

The idea turned out to be an amazing one!

Milo took right to the tiny tabby kittens. “She LOVES them.”

And they loved their new mama too, nuzzling and cuddling into her warmth and safety just as they would have a feline mom.

Anita explained nursing was a little tricky for the dog and her kittens, but the babies did finally figure out how to latch. To be sure they were getting all the nutrition kitten bodies need to grow, they also got bottles. Which meant lots of hands on love from Anita.

Watching the kittens grow helped Milo learn to be a happy dog, but once Goober, Graffiti, and Toby grew strong enough to be weaned, she had a another to battle to face.

Overcoming TVT and Chemo

During the emergency surgery following the loss of her puppies, doctors discovered Milo had TVT (transmissible venereal tumor). As a highly aggressive cancer, TVT tumors had formed in the short few months Milo had been with Sunshine Dog Rescue. But she faced it with strength and a smile on her sweet snoot.

With the kittens weaned, the brave dog started chemotherapy and found her forever family. Under the care of her new dad, Milo has completed chemo and is now living the dream!

And more great news! Milo now shares her forever home with one of her kittens. Toby was adopted by her dad’s roommate!

Thanks to rescue love and adorable kittens, Milo has come through hardship to find happiness in her forever home.

A mama dog and her puppies are on the mend after they were found with their mouths glued shut in Tennessee on the fourth of July.

It’s unknown who did this to them, but thankfully they were discovered by the neighbor while their owner was in the hospital.

They were immediately taken in by the Senior Dog Lodge And Animal Rescue in Sunbright, who quickly worked to remove all of the glue from their mouths.

“This is animal cruelty. It takes a sick person to do this!” the rescue wrote on Facebook. “If you know anything about this please contact her.”

Thankfully, the mom and all of her puppies are now safe and doing well. The ending could have been very different if it weren’t for the quick-thinking of the neighbors.

“If you know something, say something,” the rescue continued. “People who are cruel to animals can often be a danger to people too, especially children.”

Oreo, a Pit Bull-Dachshund mix, had been abandoned and was living on the streets for a while. A local man always fed her and looked out for her, but Oreo didn’t want to be rescued. So when the man saw Oreo with her only puppy, Cookie Monster, he knew he had to call a rescue.

In this video, we see the rescuers arriving on the freeway to rescue Oreo and Cookie Monster. As Cookie Monster darts to the busy streets, the rescuer uses a net and quickly saves him from endangering his life. However, Oreo is not happy to see her baby trapped and in the clutches of a human. As the mama dog anxiously begins protesting, the rescuers decide to call for backup.

The rescuers ask the man who had been feeding Oreo all this time to help with the rescue. When Oreo sees the familiar face, she runs to him and begs him to save her baby. The man calms her down and assures her that Cookie Monster is safe with the new humans. Finally, the rescuers let Oreo kiss her puppy to convince her that they mean well!

With the dream of a better life, Oreo and Cookie Monster follow the rescuers and arrive at the shelter. After their medical check-ups, they were transferred to a foster home where they got acquainted with a comfortable life as beloved, pampered pets!

As updated by the shelter, the mother-son duo is happily adopted into an amazing home, and got renamed as Lady and Reptar. They also love trotting around their neighborhood with big smiles, and are known to be absolute “traffic-stoppers” due to their “lethal” cuteness!

Hope For Paws received an emergency text about a homeless Pit Bull who gave birth out on the streets and was found carrying a lifeless pup around in her mouth looking for help. This baby was gone, but she had six others she still needed to care for. Rescuers arrived on scene to see the mama protecting her young ones behind a bush.

Mama was very scared and protective of her babies and didn’t want to come out. But Eldad was able to coax her with the gentle snare. They worked on gaining her trust before rounding up all of the dogs to get back to the hospital. But Jade still seemed worried even while surrounded by all of her pups. So they knew something was still wrong.

The next day, they got a call from Stephanie who said a neighbor admitted to taking a puppy home to keep before realizing they had made a mistake. They asked to please get the pup back to its mother.

And now, eight weeks later with all of her puppies at her side, Jade is so much happier and healthier! They’re all currently being fostered by The Little Red Dog until they can find their loving forever homes. ?
