Police K9s are known for being strong, serious, and focused. They know how to set aside their playful energy when on the job, but they don’t have to be serious 24/7. When working dogs go home at the end of the day, they’re able to relax and show a different side of their personalities.
K9 Sonny from the Clinton Police Department in Connecticut is always tough on the job, but whenever he’s at home, he turns into a gentle soul. As soon as his human sister was born, his kind and nurturing side stood out even more. He loves his little sister more than anything!
Police Dog’s Heart Melts Around Baby Human
Sonny shares a special bond with his human and handler, Corporal Jason Frey. Sonny is always ready to go into “cop” mode whenever he sees Jason get his uniform out. Jason said that Sonny is the perfect partner because the pup always seems to listen when Jason needs to vent. Sometimes, Sonny even barks in response to things Jason says.
At home, Sonny has always been a softie. But he became even more loving when Jason and his wife, Lainey, had a baby named Reagan. They weren’t sure how Sonny would act around his new sister at first, but the results were more heartwarming than they ever could’ve imagined.
“Sonny was our entire life up until our daughter was born,” Jason said. “We never knew if he was gonna understand what it’s like to share the spotlight.”
Luckily, Sonny quickly got used to not being the only “baby” in the family anymore. He adored the tiny human. He always wanted to be in the same room as her, and he was very tolerant of her playing with him and petting him. Sonny knew Reagan was someone he needed to protect and be gentle with.
An Unbreakable Bond
Sonny and Reagan’s relationship grew so strong that Reagan would miss her furry friend when he was at work. Once, Lainey spotted Reagan holding a photo of Jason and Sonny while they weren’t home. Reagan put her hand on the photo lovingly.
“Sonny is her big brother and her best friend,” Lainey said. “Clearly, he loves her so much because he just lets her do whatever.”
When Sonny plays with adults, he’s reluctant to give toys back or let go of them. Yet, if Reagan reaches for a toy in Sonny’s mouth, he happily hands it over. His tough side disappears completely whenever Reagan is around.
Jason and Lainey recently welcomed another baby girl into their family. Sonny has shown just as much love toward the new baby as he has for Reagan. He is the best big brother a girl could ask for!
