Although many homeless people have animals, they are often criticized for owning them. However, when a homeless person puts their pet in danger, the discussion becomes relevant. But most of the time, homeless people go without food or money so that their pets can have a steady diet, keep warm, and have adequate shelter.

Wilma Frice, from Houston, Texas, encountered a homeless man, Patrick, outside Walmart with a sign that read, “Dog in the pound, need help.” Patrick was pleading for assistance for his best friend, Franklin, who had been in the pound since he couldn’t raise $120 to release him.

Frice, who was heartbroken by the sign, decided to help. “He seemed like a nice, gentle soul who just happened to have a hard life. The look in his eye was desperation; he looked like a big kid who just lost his puppy,” Frice told People.com.

After providing the money, Patrick shared the following post on Facebook:

“I’m just so shocked he is a wonderful man and Franklin is a wonderful dog I did this because I would want somebody to do it for me I’ve done homeless animals all my life and dedicated my life to them we all could be in his situation in the blink of an eye and you never know somebody situation or what’s going on in their life so I am not a very judgmental person and I never judge somebody by the cover of their book is until you’ve walked in their shoes you have no idea what somebody’s went through you should always pay it forward if you’re able because like I said in the blink of an eye you could be in the same situation I know how hard I struggle every day just to make sure that the animals have everything and will never end back up on the street again while they’re waiting for their forever home and I have been blessed in my life with unconditional love with all the homeless animals.” >>… RELATED POST: Homeless man seen throwing sweet birthday party for his beloved dog

The sign shattered her heart. Patrick, a homeless man, was there on his own, pleading for assistance. He wasn’t asking for food or money for himself. He was seeking assistance for his best friend, Franklin, who had been in the pound since he could not raise $120 to release him.

Hope is a tiny Pit Bull mix puppy with a loving family to care for her, however, this sweet puppy wasn’t always so lucky. She was first found in plastic bag inside a Coachella Valley dumpster when she was only a few weeks old. Luckily, Alejandra Espinoza Zazueta came to the rescue after receiving a call from her mom. Unfortunately, when Zazueta arrived at the scene, she discovered that poor Hope was not in very good shape.

Zazueta discovered that about 30% of Hope’s body was covered in burns and part of her tail was cut off. Even though the poor puppy didn’t seem to be doing well, Zazueta knew that she had to do everything she could to save her. She fell in love with the sweet puppy almost instantly.

Hope’s Healing Process

Right away, Zazueta called the Sheriff’s Department and Animal Control to report the incident. Then, she took Hope to a local vet because she knew the puppy needed immediate medical attention.

At the vet, when they saw the heartbreaking state that Hope was in, they decided it was best to transfer her to the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation. Once she was there, she was taken care of immediately and it was starting to look like things were going to be okay.

During Hope’s medical treatment, they discovered that a lot of the skin on her back was completely rotten, so they had to surgically remove it. The medical team guessed that the burns were likely intentional, caused by either contact with a heated object or chemicals.

“It’s cruel. I honestly don’t understand how a person could do this to defenseless little puppies,” said Zazueta. “I am mind-boggled and distraught and furious that this is what happened.”

Of course, Zazueta had bonded with Hope, so she decided that she would adopt her and bring her home once she recovered.

At first, the medical team was unsure as to whether or not Hope would even be able to use her back legs, but Zazueta didn’t care as long as the poor puppy ended up happy and healthy in the end. She even discussed purchasing a custom wheelchair for Hope if needed.

Hope’s Amazing Recovery!

Despite everything she went through, Hope has recovered successfully. She is looking healthy and she is even able to run and play just like any other puppy! Luckily, there is no need for a wheelchair.

Zazueta is so grateful that her sweet puppy is in much better shape. Hope is happy and safe in her new environment and she has even made other dog friends. She still has to wear a bandage for her wounds, but other than that, she’s doing well.

“I want her to know that a lot of people care about her and she is safe with me and I can promise her that it won’t ever happen to her ever again,” Zazueta said.

Even though Hope’s life has turned out to be so much better, the Animal Hope and Wellness foundation will continue to search for the person responsible. They are offering a $20,000 reward to anyone that knows who this terrible person is.

No dog should have to go through what Hope went through and it heartbreaking to think that anyone would do such a thing to an innocent puppy. People like that deserve the worst punishment possible.

When a dog fully sets their mind to something, anything is possible. Abby the four-year-old Lab and Pit Bull mix made that very clear when she was lost. She spent her days alone looking for someone special, and somehow, she knew exactly where to look: Walmart!

The smart pup strolled into the Walmart entrance without a care in the world. She figured the “no dogs” rule didn’t apply to her since she was on a mission. She didn’t find the human she was looking for right away, but she sure started a commotion.

Dog on the Loose

Danielle Robinette, a customer sales associate, was the first to notice the dog enter the store. Abby had no collar, service dog vest, or leash, so Robinette knew something was wrong. Being an avid animal lover, she quickly got up and followed the pup. The security guard was right beside her.

“She would just stop and look up at people. It looked like she was looking for someone,” Robinette said.

And she was! Abby was looking around with her nose in the air, hoping to see or smell someone familiar. That’s when June Rountree, the cashier at register 6, spotted the dog. By then, Abby had caused a commotion, so many employees and customers tried to catch the runaway dog.

Rountree rushed toward the dog and hugged her effortlessly. Abby cuddled with her in return, which was the first time she’d stopped running in the store. Everyone was confused, but they quickly gathered a leash for the dog.

A Walmart Reunion

Once Rountree finally calmed down a little, she explained her excitement to Robinette. Abby was her dog who she adopted as a stray several years ago. The pup got lost three weeks ago when she broke out of her collar while walking. Rountree searched every inch of the neighborhood for her and checked in with the local shelter, but the pup was long gone.

“I just could not believe it was her, I felt like I was in a dream. I started in tears and I couldn’t talk with anybody,” Rountree said.

Rountree was able to take Abby home during her lunch break, where Abby napped on her dog bed and played with her Chiweenie sister Coco as if nothing had changed. Robinette and everyone else who witnessed the event are still in awe of the pup’s bravery and dedication. The story has since been shared thousands of times on Facebook.

Everyone is still in disbelief about how Abby found her way to her mom’s workplace. Rountree lives about 1.7 miles away from work, but two busy roads are in between the two locations. So, how Abby got there and found her mom will remain a mystery. But Rountree is just happy to have her best friend home again.
