Meet Bayley, the real-life pet dog who looks just like Snoopy! Bayley is a Mini Sheepadoodle and though she is a different breed than Snoopy, her white body and black ears make her look identical to the famous Peanuts pet. Bayley first went viral when her photo was shared on Instagram by @doodledogsclub, and the post received over 1.2 million likes. Bayley’s owners also run an Instagram account for her with over 180,000 followers where they share photos and videos of her enjoying her life. Bayley’s friendly and playful nature is typical of her hybrid breed, which is a cross between an Old English Sheepdog and a Miniature Poodle. Dogs and babies make the best of friends, and how they interact with each other is the cutest thing. They both share a genuine curiosity and playfulness, and that makes them the most perfectly compatible companions! They make memories that last a lifetime, especially when captured on video like the one below. 🙂

When Dad started recording this, there was no way to tell it would end up being so precious. The baby crawls up to the Husky to say hello and reaches out to pet the dog. When the baby makes contact, the dog reacts in adorable fashion.

The friendly and playful Husky flips onto his back and begins kissing his human sibling. This takes the baby by surprise, and his face just about says it all! Dad can’t help but laugh at the beautiful and silly moment. You can see the foundation being laid for a lifelong friendship that’ll only grow stronger with time.

One person can change the world. Kayla Denney changed the world for all the stray and abandoned animals in Taft, Texas.

Kayla left her job as an accountant to pursue her dream of helping and saving animals. She took the job of animal control officer/ shelter manager/ anything to help save the animals. The city shelter was run down with no electricity or publicity to help find the shelter animals homes.

It was a high-kill shelter and in desperate need of repair, but with a limited budget there were minimal supplies. Denise Hitt, City Manager, said, “We did have what they call the ‘blue juice’, to euthanize animals.”

John Cornish, Chief of Police, for the city recalled before Kayla arrived, “Every Wednesday was the kill day. It was horrible.”

Denise and John dreamed of one day having a no-kill city shelter and it all happened when Kayla arrived.

Kayla took over the shelter and immediately took to her personal Facebook page to ask for supplies, donations and no negative comments. People stepped up and sent over 800 boxes of supplies to help her transform the shelter.

Her next step was to enhance the lives of the shelter pets by rounding up volunteers to help walk, play and care for the animals. She created a Facebook page to promote the adorable animals looking for homes. She reached out to fosters and rescues to help find forever homes.

Slowly, the shelter was transformed and now has electricity and all the animals are finding loving homes!

Within a year, Kayla took the run-down city shelter with a high-kill rate and changed it to a 100% save rate. Petco Foundation heard about Kayla’s amazing work and awarded her with the 2019 National Unsung Hero Award and $35,000.

She plans to use that money to enhance the shelter. “I want indoor outdoor kennels with a guillotine in between so when it’s raining we can put them inside. We want an area where they can have meet and greet out in the field and somewhere, they can have grass time rather than just cement time,” she told KZTV.

However, her good work does not stop there. She frequently visits neighborhoods to check on animals and offer their owners support and supplies. “Here in Taft they are starting to see that I am not here to pick up their animals and take them away. I am here to make sure that the animal is taken care of.”

After receiving the award, Kayla said, “You guys just helped me save dogs.” She went on to say, “Every dog deserves a chance, whether it is my shelter or not.”

Since the beginning of the year over 500 cats and dogs have entered the shelter and not one was euthanized. You are our hero. Keep up the amazing and inspiring work.

If you have a fur baby in your life, you know you will do just about anything to protect them from harm. Many domestic abuse survivors admit to being unwilling to flee to safety if it means leaving their pets behind, making this new legislation so important.

Recently passed Missouri bill, SB-71 will allow added protection to domestic violence victims and their pets. This bill acknowledges just how real the threat can be toward pets in an abusive home, and aims to offer survivors more options in terms of seeking help for their furry family members. It also allows judges to grant restraining orders for extended periods of time, and can automatically renew them without the survivors having to appear in court.

As stated in the SB-71 summary:

“Under this act, adult protection orders and child protection orders, full or ex parte, may be granted to restrain or enjoin an individual from committing or threatening to commit abuse against a pet. A protection order may include an order of possession of the pet where appropriate, as well as any funds needed to cover the medical costs resulting from abuse of the pet.”

We know that there are many factors a victim must consider when attempting to leave a dangerous situation. Having a pet involved can make the situation all the more challenging, as so many survivors cannot fathom seeking protection without their beloved pet.

“Research indicates that up to 89 percent of pet-owning women entering domestic violence shelters report that their abuser threatened, harmed, or killed a family pet. Additionally, as many as 48 percent of domestic violence survivors with pets delay seeking safety, fearing what would happen if they left their pets behind.” – ASPCA

We can only hope that action like this will empower those in violent homes to seek the help they so desperately deserve, along with their furry friends that are also at risk. By taking one major obstacle out of the equation, this bill could help to save human and animal lives alike.

“Victims of domestic violence should not have to live in constant fear of their abuser’s retaliation, their beloved pet being harmed or having to re-appear in court multiple times to renew the same order of protection. I hope this new law will empower victims to seek protection and enable families to recover from the trauma of domestic abuse .” — Republican Sen. Elaine Gannon

If this bill is signed into law, these measures will go into effect in August of 2021. There are now over 30 states that include pets in their fight against violence in the home, and there are hopefully more to come!

Pets can be a lifeline for the elderly, giving them a purpose and helping to benefit their mental and physical health and can also help combat loneliness.

But for those seniors living alone and diagnosed with serious illnesses or worse, they can sometimes worry about their pets more than themselves.

The worry of who will take care of their furry family member while they’re in hospital or after they’ve gone can be overwhelming.

Now an organization aims to help those seniors banish these worries so they can concentrate on getting themselves healthy again.

Pets help people with anxiety

Pet Peace of Mind ensures these important creatures are not overlooked by family members and not forgotten when their pet parent is unable to care for them.

“I know of countless patients who have said that their pet is their lifeline. Pets are great medicine for coping with the anxiety the comes from dealing with a serious medical condition,” Pet Peace of Mind president Dianne McGill said.

“For many patients, keeping their pets near them during the end of life journey and finding homes for their beloved pets after they pass is one of the most important pieces of unfinished business.”

The Oregon-based organization not only ensures that those with terminal illnesses don’t have to worry about their pet being looked after, they also make sure their four-legged friends stay close by.

‘Pets may be overlooked’

“People have come to bond with their pets in much the same way they bond with people,” their Facebook page reads.

“Pets are treated and loved like family members and they comfort their owners much like a close friend or relative. It is no wonder then that during the end-of-life journey, pets can play a critical role.

“Unfortunately, as families deal with grief and loss during hospice care, pets may be overlooked, forgotten, or even ignored by family members unfamiliar with the patient’s bond with a pet.”

The nonprofit relies on donations and volunteers to help with everything from grooming and walking a sick person’s pet to finding a new home after their owner passes.

‘Dog off to the pound’

“We had all seen things happen where the patient was in their ending days, and they were so concerned about what was going to happen to their pet, and the family would say, ‘It’s OK, we’ll take care of it,’ and then the patient would die and the dog was off to the pound,” Karen Jeffries, volunteer coordinator for St. Luke’s Hospice, told U.S. News and World Report.

Now pet owners can banish the worries they have over their beloved pets and know they are in safe hands should anything happen to them.

This is such a great idea; I’m so glad organizations like this exist.

Every year the Animal Rescue League of Iowa sets up Trees of Life in the lobbies of their 7 shelter locations where friendly humans can drop off donations of food, supplies, toys and treats.

It is a cherished tradition and the area communities certainly haven’t let the animals down this year. Check out the haul underneath the tree at the main office in Des Moines!

This week, the holiday spirit got the best of the shelter staff and they decided to give all the dogs and cats early Christmas gifts. They allowed them to explore the piles of swag under the tree and choose their own toy!

The pure joy of these adoptable cuties was captured on video and it is just too sweet for words!

What could possibly be better than the sheer holiday bliss of this video? Finding out that four of the dogs and one of the cats have found their forever homes! Snoop, Hemi, Boss, Jango and Luanne will all be spending Christmas day beneath their very own Christmas trees!

All of the Iowa Animal Rescue League locations will be accepting donations from their Wish List for their Tree of Life project through the end of the month – but what these shelter cuties really want for Christmas is to be adopted. Check out all of the IARL available pets!

Duo Duo the Golden Retriever and his sidekick, Snowball the cat, of Guangzhou, China, have proven that friendship and love knows no species.

According to their owner, Mr. An, these two animals are always together, even when they’re sleeping. They share a very special bond and are undeniably inseparable!

Duo is always grooming Snowball, while Snowball wraps her little paws around Duo and hugs him tight. She even lays on top of him as if he was a comfy bed.

Luckily for us, Mr. An captured all of these heartwarming moments in pictures and videos for the world to see. After he learned just how many people loved his furry family members, he created a Doyin account for them, which is the Chinese equivalent of TikTok.

The account quickly garnered more than 143,000 followers, whose hearts melted at the adorable friendship between Duo and Snowball.

Back in 2011, one afternoon of volunteer work was all that it took for Dr. Kwane Stewart to re-evaluate certain priorities. After setting up a table with a local soup kitchen, Dr. Stewart started treating the pets of homeless people. In the one afternoon, he had treated 15 animals. Knowing that this was a major problem, Dr. Stewart decided to keep at it.

The California vet continued to treat homeless animals free of charge. During his spare time, this vet can be found traveling around California looking for disadvantaged animals who need care. In fact, for his good deeds, GoFundMe awarded Dr. Stewart with their February GoFundMe Hero honor.

As he told the site, “That first experience was one of the most rewarding moments for me. When you give back, there is something you get in return that feels much larger. I knew I wanted to keep doing it.”

This generous vet has been known to go around with medical supplies in a bag, helping animals. He has made a difference in the lives of many dogs and cats – and even one python.

As Dr. Stewart revealed to Today, he normally treats ear infections, fleas, and mild arthritis – something that can often be treated with a shot. However, there have been some occasions when surgery is required – something that costs a little more than Dr. Stewart can manage out of pocket.

As he told GoFundMe, “I don’t ever want to have to turn anybody away. The look on people’s faces when they get their pets back, especially after a surgery or a life-saving procedure  —  those are moments I’ll remember forever.”

In September of 2019, in order to raise the money for surgical procedures, Dr. Stewart started a GoFundMe page.

He wrote on the site, “All donations will go to the care of these pets and will surely make a difference in the owner’s lives as well.”

He has managed to raise more than $47,000 – well above his original $10,000 goal.

Dr. Stewart has also partnered with an animal hospital in Los Angeles. This vet is hoping that others will get inspired to start volunteering with underprivileged animals.

Dr. Stewart said, “Anyone has the power to help. You can volunteer at a rescue shelter. You can donate money or time. As that generosity spreads, it helps fuel the positive energy in the world.”
