I will never comprehend how animal owners can dump their trusting pet as if it’s garbage.
There are cases where a pet owner can no longer look after their animal, but they have alternatives to dumping their pet and leaving it without food and water.
In a recent case in Abilene, Texas, not only was a dog dumped in the parking lot of a church but also her nine two-week old puppies.
Not only was a mama dog who had recently given birth dumped but also left without food and water and nine hungry mouths to feed.
A picture of the 5-year-old boxer mix and her puppies was posted on social media and the offers soon came flooding in from shocked animal lovers.
“Dumped in the parking lot of an Abilene church. All Rescues are full to bursting. Foster needed asap. Please. Developing situation,” the post read.
Paw Angel Animal Rescue staff saw the appeal and knew they had to help the dog and her pups immediately.
“I saw the picture and it just broke my heart and I called Angel and we went and rescued the dogs,” said Misty Boerger.
Misty Boerger and Angel Urban drove to the mamma dog and her pups and put them into the back seat of their car.
“I just don’t know how someone could do that, leaving mamma and two-week-old babies,” added Misty.
The mamma dog, which they later named Dory, needed immediate attention from a vet.
“We found lots of wounds on her that were open and draining,” Angel explained.
The vet also found a tumor in one of her puppy’s throats and he had to be put down.
After realizing that the pups would need round the clock care if they were to survive Misty decided to take them in for two weeks to give them the attention they needed.
Placed for adoption
“Mom and puppies are safe now. They will be staying with me for two weeks and then moved to a permanent foster.
“They will placed for adoption after they have been spayed and neutered and mom is spayed…The smaller baby will need more attention and care and I can tube feed,” Misty wrote appealing for donations to help the furry family.”
A Facebook page has been set up to tell Dory’s story “From Dumped to Diva: Dory’s story” and the sweet mamma looks like a different dog compared to the state she was in after being dumped.
