There are so many stray dogs out in the world waiting for someone to show them kindness, or maybe even give them a home.
It’s always a wonderful moment when these animals realize they’re safe after struggling for so long. After being rescued, one sick stray finally let his guard down in a precious moment.
Anand Raman was on his way to visit his sister in Dubai when he came across a dog, seeking shade underneath a parked car.
“He was under a car eating scraps some of her workers had left for him,” Anand told The Dodo. “His fur was matted and his legs weren’t quite right.”
While he had never seen the dog before, the stray came up to him as if he was his friend. The two immediately hit it off.
Anand knew he had to help. He took the dog with him to his car, where he showed the dog all the love and kindness it had never known.
“We then sat there for a while on the sidewalk and he was content just receiving pets from me for a while,” Anand said.
In a beautiful moment, the trusting dog rested in his rescuer’s arms.“I carried him into the car and he immediately fell asleep on my shoulder.”
He took the exhausted dog to the vet, where he was diagnosed with rickets due to malnutrition. Luckily, it was a treatable condition.
Anand also discovered something about his new dog: his fur was pure white, something he never realized with all the dirty and grime.
He decided to name the dog “Snowy.”
As is the case with many former strays, it took some time for Snowy to adjust to his new surroundings.
Anand says that when he took the dog on walks, the dog was terrified that he would be abandoned again and rush back to their apartment.
“Getting him adapted to a house at first wasn’t easy,” Anand told The Dodo. “He wasn’t sure where to go and what to explore, so he’d just sit in a corner.”
But despite everything he went through, Snowy is adjusting to his new, happier life.
“He sleeps and waits for us to get home from work, which is when he showers us with love and we reciprocate the same with him,” Anand said.
