A Fort Pierce, Florida man has been accused of neglecting a dog so badly that he had to be euthanized because of how poorly his condition was.
Fort Pierce police were called to 61-year-old Jackie Cloe’s home after a neighbor said the man’s dog, Boo, was being abused by him.
When police walked up to the carport outside of the house, they found Boo extremely dehydrated and malnourished to the point where he had severe muscle wasting.

He was also tied up with a very heavy chain around his neck that was digging into his skin. This caused an infection that police could smell from a distance. He was also infested with ants and fleas.
They rushed Boo to a local animal hospital, where vets determined it was best for them to humanely euthanize him.
Back in January, police submitted an arrest warrant for Cloe, but it was declined due to lack of sufficient evidence.

In July and August, the prosecutor who declined the warrant then ordered more information on the case, including interviews with the two other people who were present the day officers found Boo.
One of the men told police that Cloe never took Boo to get medical help.
Close was then arrested and taken to St. Lucie County Jail, where he was released on $3,500 bail.
He now faces animal cruelty charges, and if convicted, could face a year in jail and a fine up to $5,000.
