Most people know not to leave a dog alone in a hot car, but there are always some individuals that don’t care. Then, some people try to find every loophole when they should be caring about their dog’s wellbeing instead. A person in Florida didn’t leave their dog trapped in their car, but instead, they left the pup tied to their car handle. The dog was forced to rest on the hot black pavement beneath him.

Luckily, a kind stranger kept an eye on the dog, hoping the owner would be quick. But when 45 minutes passed, he contacted authorities to possibly save the dog’s life.

A Dog in Distress

When Mark Estremera of Naples, Florida, saw the dog, who looks like a German Shepherd, he had no doubt that the canine was in distress. The dog was tethered to a short lead on the handle of his human’s car. At first, the dog rested on the hot pavement but eventually couldn’t handle it anymore. He tried to squeeze under the car for some shade, but his short leash barely allowed that.

Estremera guessed that the person had to quickly run inside to grab something. So, he waited in the parking lot and kept an eye on the dog. At least 45 minutes passed, but no one came for the dog. The poor pup only panted more heavily.

“Once I saw he was panting heavily after laying there for a while and trying to squeeze underneath the car with the little bit of slack he had from that leash, I knew I had to call,” Estremera said.

During the situation, Estremera recorded a video of the dog, which is heartbreaking for him to watch. After watching the video, another Florida resident agreed that the dog looked distressed. However, the police weren’t as convinced.

Officials See it Differently

When Estremera called 911, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office came to the parking lot in response. Yet, they didn’t seem too concerned about the dog. They said that he had food and water accessible to him and that he didn’t seem distressed. So, they didn’t take any immediate action.

Yet, the laws in Collier County, Florida, protect dogs in situations like that. It’s illegal to leave dogs out in extreme heat or tether them out of their human’s sight. The police haven’t stated if the suspect will face any charges or if the dog will stay in that person’s care.

“Coming from someone who owns a dog and loves his dog to death, that’s animal cruelty,” said Estremera.

No dog should be left to suffer in the heat, whether it’s inside a car or on a tether outside. Hopefully, this situation reminds dog parents to avoid bringing their dog on errands, especially during extreme heat. It’s also a good idea to learn your area’s laws so you’ll know what to do when you see a dog in that situation.

Pets become vulnerable whenever their parents leave them with sitters for a long period of time. The constant absence of their family, together with seeing unfamiliar faces makes them nervous. Some often start wondering if they have been abandoned.

Skylar, the cute Whippet in this video, was also very emotional when her parents went on a vacation for a few days. They left her under the care of an able dog sitter named James Liakos. But Skylar was still very worried. James sensed that Skylar was downcast, so he went out of the way to make her feel safe and loved.

In this video, we see James and Skylar’s many fun adventures. They play together, go on long walks and cuddle to their heart’s content. In between, Skylar would still think of her “absent” parents and get upset. But James consoles her and assures her that her family would be back in no time!

James recorded this video to update Skylar’s family and drive away all their worries about her well-being. We will have to commend James for being such an angel to an anxious and lonely pet. This beautiful video is a reminder to us all about why we must take our time to ensure that we are leaving our pets with the right person!

It’s summer, and with temperatures high it’s important to be alert about pets left in hot cars. Dogs are very susceptible to heat stroke and can die if left alone in a car for too long.

Sadly, too many people still leave their pets to suffer in hot cars every year: according to PETA, there have been 30 hot car deaths in 2021 alone.

Thankfully, disaster was averted this week after a bystander found a dog left in a hot car and called authorities before it was too late.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, in Florida, received an anonymous call on Sunday from a citizen at the Melbourne Square Mall, reporting that a 10-month-old puppy was found alone in a parked car.

According to FOX 13, the engine was off and the windows were closed, leaving this puppy in serious danger.

Officer Steve Anderson arrived and removed the puppy from the car. The pup was reportedly crying in pain and in dire health. The temperature in the car had reached over 100 degrees.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey says the puppy was “near death,” and the officers got there just in time to save the pup’s life before it was too late.

“If not for the life-saving efforts of the anonymous citizen who called us and the actions of Steve Anderson, our animal enforcement officer, this puppy would have died,” Ivey said in a press conference.

The officer took the puppy into an air-conditioned police vehicle to cool down before bringing it over to animal control.

And the Sheriff’s Office also arrested two suspects, Mecaila Page Johnson and Brandon Mclaren, on felony animal cruelty charges.

According to Ivey, the couple left the dog in the car while shopping at the mall, and didn’t return until a half hour after the rescue. It’s safe to say that, without intervention, the dog would’ve died.

But thankfully, the puppy is now in good hands and is expected to make a full recovery.

We’re so glad this dog is safe. It’s a reminder to never leave your dog alone in a hot car, and to be vigilant about those who do. Taking action can mean the difference between life and death.

These dog owners saw their pet panicking and frantically running around the boat out back in the yard, so they went to investigate. The dog was trying to get under the boat, so something was clearly under there. That’s when they discovered what all the fuss was about.

It’s sad these kittens were abandoned and left to fend for themselves, but these people did all the right things to keep them alive and healthy!

Numerous people who witnessed a dog chained up outside a home in Sedalia, Colorado during a blizzard contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The dog was seen covered in falling snow, while being forced to stand in several feet of it in freezing temperatures.

The Sheriff’s Office immediately got in contact with the owner, who told police that the dog has access to shelter and food but choses to stay outside.

Because the residence is located in a remote area of the mountains and cannot be sadly accessed, deputies are unable to physically check on the dog.

Despite not being able to check on him during the blizzard, the Douglas County Sheriff’s office don’t believe the dog is being abused.

“To be very clear, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as a whole are huge dog lovers,” they tweeted. “Ref: the chained dog in Sedalia- it is a dog breed adapted to winter weather and has been checked on several times in the past and has always had access to food, water, and shelter.”

Hundreds of people were angered by the Sheriff’s Office’s response.

“My dog is a great pyr mtn dog & loves snow but he can NOT withstand these kind of temps with no shelter!” one user tweeted. “That dog’s paws are no doubt frozen & he will not have access to water unless his sorry owners take him some every couple mins due to freezing temps!”

“Absolutely heart breaking. I don’t care how much a dog ‘likes snow’ this is unacceptable and there isn’t sufficient shelter,” another wrote. “Absolutely disgusting. Legitimately makes my heart hurt.”
