In a heartwarming tale that defied the odds, a Golden Retriever named Naoise (pronounced Neesha) was found and rescued by two walkers in Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains after being missing for two agonizing weeks. Ciara Nolan and Jean-Francois Bonnet, the heroic duo behind the rescue, stumbled upon Naoise during a treacherous walk in the snow-covered mountains. Jean-Francois described the conditions as bitterly cold, snowy, and windy, with poor visibility. As they reached near the summit, Ciara suddenly exclaimed, “There is a dog, there is a dog!” They discovered Naoise curled up against a rock, petrified and on the verge of freezing.

Moved by compassion, Ciara and Jean-Francois immediately wrapped the shivering dog in warm clothing and embarked on the arduous journey back to safety. Despite Naoise’s weakened state, they attempted to encourage her to walk, but she lacked the strength to stand. Using a scarf, they securely fastened Naoise to a backpack, which enabled them to carry her for four to five hours until they reached the road.

When Ciara contacted Naoise’s owners, Erina O’Shea Goetelen and her family, with the incredible news, they were overwhelmed with joy and disbelief. The family had lost two dogs in the Wicklow Mountains while off-leash, as the dogs bolted upon sighting a deer. While one dog had been found after a few days, they had all but given up hope of ever finding Naoise again.

The remarkable rescue efforts of Ciara, a former student of Mount Anville Secondary School in Dublin, were recognized and celebrated by the school on social media.

Upon Naoise’s return, it was apparent that the eight-year-old Labrador had endured a harrowing ordeal. She had lost a significant amount of weight, and her time in the mountains had caused dermatitis. However, with the love and care provided by her family, Naoise has been steadily recovering. Ms. O’Shea Goetelen shared that Naoise is “doing well” and happily wagging her tail at home. Donnie, a 62-pound Pitbull, was left alone in a courtyard in New York and wandered for two days. After being rescued and taken to the Animal Care Center in Brooklyn, Donnie had something to prove. Despite his big size, he was just a big mushball. “Some of our biggest dogs are also the biggest, mushiest babies! It’s so sweet and silly that they don’t realize their own size, or that most people are probably afraid of them,” said Manisha Shah, an ACC volunteer.

Donnie was nervous at first, but he quickly warmed up to the volunteers and started smiling at everyone who walked by. Shah, who runs Boroughbred in Brooklyn, made a video about Donnie to help him get adopted. Pitbulls like Donnie often have a hard time finding homes, even though they are friendly, loving pets. According to TIME, dogs labeled as “pitbulls” will often wait three times as long at shelters to find homes than dogs of different breeds.

Volchok grew up under the woman’s care, and he was incredibly loyal to her. However, when a group of dangerous men prowled the town, the woman became frightened, especially when they singled her out and headed towards her home.

At Dogs Trust Basildon, volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, but 89-year-old Maisie Green has found a unique way to help furry friends in need. Using her passion for knitting, Maisie has created approximately 450 cozy blankets and sweaters for dogs awaiting their forever homes.

“I love dogs and knitting, so this combines both wonderfully,” said Maisie. It takes her three days to knit a blanket and one day to make a doggy coat. Three times a year, Maisie and her family deliver the handmade items to the shelter. Dogs like “Daniel the Spaniel” have been among the lucky recipients of Maisie’s donations over the years.

“Knitting keeps me busy, and often I like to do it while watching television,” Maisie said. “I’m delighted to be helping the four-legged residents at the center in some way.”

Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK, operating 20 Rehoming Centres across the UK and Ireland. Each year, they care for over 16,000 stray, unwanted, and abandoned dogs. Learn about the heartwarming story of Carson, a Pit Bull who wouldn’t leave his corner in a dog shelter. Dog shelters can be overwhelming for dogs as they are noisy, chaotic, and sparsely furnished. Carson was surrendered by his family due to skin allergies and was clearly disturbed in the shelter environment, shaking violently and refusing to move.

Fortunately, Lauren, a volunteer with Philly Bully Team, heard about Carson and decided to take him home. She knew that he needed to feel secure to thrive, and Carson was grateful to her from the moment he saw her. They were a perfect match, with Lauren providing the constant attention that Carson required.

Lauren realized that they were a match made in heaven and informed the rescue group that she wanted to make the adoption final. Carson is overjoyed to be reunited with Lauren and won’t leave her side, even when she needs to work from home. Despite being obstructive at times, Lauren is happy to have Carson as her companion.

Carson’s favorite pastime is snuggling, going for walks, and seeking out the best sticks. When he’s out on walks, his entire body wags with happiness. It’s heartening to see how Carson has gone from being terrified and shaking to a happy boy who loves nothing more than curling up with Lauren on the couch.

Taylor came across Ozzie through an advertisement seeking a new home for the puppy. The moment she met him, his charming personality and distinct heterochromia eyes won her over. Ozzie was full of energy, always ready for playtime and ran with lightning speed.

However, one day, Taylor noticed Ozzie limping and took him to the vet clinic immediately. The vet’s diagnosis was heart-wrenching – Ozzie had a tumor in his leg, causing osteosarcoma. The prognosis was grim, with Ozzie having less than a year to live, regardless of the treatment option chosen.

Despite the difficult news, Taylor chose the treatment that offered Ozzie the best chance for a longer life. Ozzie underwent leg amputation and went through five rounds of chemotherapy, which was tough on him. To reward him for his bravery, Taylor’s dad from out of state used Uber Eats to treat Ozzie with ice cream after each chemo session.

Asher, a 5-month-old puppy, had his paws screwed to a bathroom door by his former owner. The people at the animal shelter couldn’t believe it when someone asked for help. Who would do something so cruel to a sweet puppy?

Even though the puppy hurt, he was still very friendly. As people took him down from the wall and brought him to safety, his tail never stopped wagging. Animal rights activists are doing everything they can to help him get better, but he still has a long way to go. His abuser is getting what he deserves, which is good.

A Case of Severe Mistreatment

On February 25, 2022, Tyler Austin Jerdo shut himself and his puppy in a bathroom. He used a power drill to screw the helpless dog’s front paws to the door. It’s not clear why. He also put paint on the puppy. Police think that Jerdo was high on something at the time of the crime.

When the deputies got there, they saw that the bathroom door was being held shut by a birdbath, an air conditioner, and some weightlifting equipment. When they got inside, they were shocked to see the dog hanging by his paws from the door frame.

Rescuers were able to get one screw out, but the second screw was so deep in the dog’s paw that the dog had to be pulled off it. They took him quickly to the South Carolina Union County Animal Shelter.

Officers tried to take Jerdo into custody, but he fought them off. He hit an officer in the head to get away, but he has since been caught again. Jerdo was charged with mistreating animals, resisting arrest, and having methamphetamine with the intention to sell it. He was denied bond.

Asher’s Future Looks Good

As soon as he got to the shelter, Asher was in a good mood. But the shelter’s director, Holly Wise, was worried that one of his legs wasn’t getting better. His injury is worse than what the shelter can take care of.

Wise said, “He needs a specialist.” “We want to save his leg in any way we can. Two kind volunteers are driving him to Charleston today, where he will be taken in by a great rescue group.

So, Asher is now living in Charleston at a place called Rescued in SC. As soon as they heard his story, they offered to help, even though they didn’t know how bad his injury was. He will soon have surgery to help him get better in the long run.

Many people have said they would like to adopt Asher, but Wise said that is not possible right now. Before looking for a good home, the puppy needs to finish all of his medical care. Both groups will keep their followers up to date on his journey and let them know when he is ready to be adopted.

On a memorable Christmas Day, Julia Nemeth and her family were overjoyed to be reunited with their lost dog, Junior, after 8 years. The pit bull was stolen from their home during a break-in when he was just a puppy.

Despite the passage of time, Julia never gave up her search and worked tirelessly for 8 years to find him. During this time, she scoured missing dog pages and shelter photos, but without luck.

However, unbeknownst to her, Junior had been at a Humane Society for two years, under the name “Buddy.” The staff at the shelter grew to love him, but he acted aloof with visitors and was returned by three different adopters.

Eventually, Julia stumbled upon “Buddy” on the society’s website and recognized him as her long-lost Junior. When they were reunited, Junior showed her affection with kisses and nuzzles, and it was clear that he still remembered his old commands.

With his familiar facial patterns and birthmarks, it was evident that he was indeed Julia’s beloved dog. Junior has now smoothly fit back into their family and is full of energy and joy. This reunion was a dream come true for Julia and her family.

Jim had just been hit by a car when Dr. Sue Lynch first saw him.

Fortunately, someone saw the injured dog laying by the roadside and transported him to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, where chief vet Lynch started treating the canine’s fractured pelvis.

Lynch told People magazine, “From the minute I saw him, with a pelvic fracture and so sad, I just couldn’t believe how sweet he was despite all his injuries and pain.”

But although Jim’s severe injuries required surgery and amputation, he remained upbeat throughout this ordeal. The dog that had been saved not only handled these setbacks well but insisted on being petted by the people who had saved him. Lynch told Colorado television station KRDO, “I think what really got me with him is he started to take notice of me.”

Lynch decided to care for her four-legged patient for just a few days after Jim had fully recovered. Lynch remembered, “It was done after that,” adding that Jim soon turned out to be a foster failure. “My daughter was in love. My husband was in love. I couldn’t bring him back knowing I wouldn’t know what his future was going to be.”

Even though Jim lost a limb, he still managed to find his forever home, and it appears that this content dog wouldn’t have it any other way. Lynch described her patient-turned-pet on the Humane Society blog: “He has an amazing temperament and he just follows me around all day. It’s like nothing happened; he runs and jumps and plays with Elvita, my other dog [and another former patient]. He’s the perfect fit for our family! ”
