Life can be so hard for stray animals. With no home or shelter to go to, they not only have to find their own food and water, but they’re completely exposed to all the weather conditions.

We’ve heard many stories of dogs suffering in the freezing cold, and the kind places that opened their doors to keep them warm. But dogs are susceptible to the extreme heat, too — and one one hot day, one store knew it was the right thing to let a dog inside to cool down.

It was a scorching 104°F day in Mexico, and a local stray dog paid a visit to a local market, where he had been showing up for the past few days.

“He has been here the past [few] days,” the store’s clerk said, according to The Dodo. “We suspect he was left behind by his owner. He came to us for help.”

“We could only provide him with food, water and some toys from the store that we paid with our money.”

But on this hot day, they decided to go even further:

They let the dog inside to cool off!

The dog certainly seemed to enjoy this respite from the extreme heat: he was so comfortable that he just laid down right on the aisle floor for a nap.

“We let him inside because the temperature outside is really hell-like,” the clerk said. “We feel bad for him, but he looks happier around the store.”

And the clerks’ kindness was contagious: a customer named Adolfo Pazzi Ahumada, who was at the market for some milk, decided to buy the dog a treat.

“I felt bad for what the dog has passed through,” Adolfo told The Dodo. “But he is now receiving the love he deserves.”

Thank you to this store for opening their doors to this dog! We know this small act of kindness meant the world to this stray.

Most dogs love to swim while others struggle with it. One unfortunate event with water could make a dog avoid swimming for life. For Akela the Boxer Mastiff mix, swimming was all fun and games until she got trapped in muddy waters. A person who lived nearby spotted her struggling to swim in a muddy pond and called for help. That person said that Akela avoided getting hit by a car, but ended up getting stuck in the pond in the process. She tried her best to swim to the shore, but had no success. So, the Washington Township Police Department in New Jersey rushed to save her.

Rescuing Akela

When the officers arrived at the scene, they spotted Akela treading water in a muddy pond. She was tangled up in the plants underneath her. So, she was continuously treading water but didn’t make any progress. Occasionally, her head would even submerge in the muck.

“The poor thing must have been treading water for a while and not going anywhere,” said police Lt. John Kaufmann.

The officers had to think fast before Akela could become completely submerged. Officer John Kuligowski borrowed a kayak from someone who lived nearby. Then, he got in and paddled out to Akela. Someone on the shore recorded video footage of the event.

In the videos, Kuligowski positioned the kayak near Akela. He tried to pull her onto the boat, but she was too heavy. So, he decided to lead her to shore instead.

Chief Thomas Cicerelle and Officer Dallas Overko helped with the rescue from the shore. They tied a ball to the end of a long leash and threw it out to Kuligowski. From there, they pulled him to the shore as he guided Akela to safety. Luckily, he was able to free the dog from the muck.

Help Akela Return Home!

Akela was in good shape when she made it to shore. She was unharmed and she seemed fairly happy. The pup even posed for some photos after being rescued. Now, she just needs to find her way home.

“Akela was in high spirits after her ordeal and even posed for a few quick pictures before being turned over to Animal Control Solutions,” the department shared on Facebook.

In their posts, the police department also announced that they’re still on the lookout for Akela’s family. They encourage anyone that knows where Akela lives to contact Washington Township Police or Animal Control Solutions. Hopefully, the brave pup will be reunited with her family soon!

The bond between a dog and a human can be incredibly strong and unbreakable, but the same can be said for bonds that dogs form with one another. They can be just as powerful and touching, just like in this story.

The 17-year-old teen Caitlin Wyanne recently had a dog that passed away, George. Her other four-footer Harry misses him dearly and he doesn’t really know what to do now that his best friend has passed.

Caitlin posted a picture of Harry who was sleeping directly next to Harry’s bed, where he used to sleep before he passed away.

These two friends have been through so many amazing moments, and they always managed to get curled up together in the corner of this room. George would stay on his bed as it was his safe and cozy spot, while Harry would always sit to the side right next to him – even though he had a comfy bed of his own, he preferred to be directly near George.

The two, both Lhasa Apsos dogs, were best friends and completely inseparable. A picture of just Harry sitting next to the empty bed is just heartbreaking and emotional.

George left the family over a year ago, but Harry still decides to sit next to the bed where he used to sleep with his best friend.

The poor pup had to be put to sleep because of medical reasons. Vets diagnosed him with kidney failure, and putting him to sleep was the best and least painful option. Up until this day, Harry still sleeps in the very same spot, he likes to keep George in his heart forever. He also knows that it was never his own bed, so he decides to leave it alone out of respect and in honor of his buddy.

“I’m full on crying rn…he always let george sleep there and he died almost a year ago and he still lies there,” the teen posted on her Twitter-account.

“Almost a year on and he clearly still misses George! He sleeps on the floor to the side of the bed now quite often but I didn’t realise why until I was looking through photos of them both from a year ago and saw the photo I tweeted which made me realise,” she later added.

It’s clear that this pup misses George madly, and it must be incredibly tough for a four-footer to lose a best friend. When George passed, Harry was there in his final moments.

“We took Harry to the vets with us when George was put to sleep and stayed next to him the whole time,” Caitlin said.
The image is incredibly emotional, especially when you put two images side to side. Caitlin’s tweet was seen by thousands, and she was flooded with comments containing warm words.

“Awwww this is so sad, dogs definitely have emotions, hope your cute doggy is ok, ?❤️ xx” Sandy commented.
Another person decided to share a similar story on Twitter.

“This is so sweet! I lost one of my labradors 4 month back and my two others still leave room for her where she used to lay on the sofa and on their beds. Dogs are so precious.”

Even though Harry won’t be able to see his best friend again, he will always carry him closeby in his heart.

We’ve heard time and again of a dog’s unwavering loyalty, their abject devotion to the ones who take them in, and the unconditional love that they shower us with whenever they’re given the chance.

As it turns out, there’s a good reason for this. It would seem that there is just no end to the amazing things that dogs are doing for us every single day. This dog, in particular, is melting hearts by the millions with her dedication to finding her owners.
