The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a Pit Bull loose on the streets, and neighbors were concerned. When law enforcement arrived, the dog did something that no one would have guessed. The locals were worried and concerned about a “dangerous” Pit Bull running wild.

The police department stated the following:

“This morning, deputies responded to an Animal call in South District. A large pit bull was running around and neighbors were worried,” the department said.

“Upon arrival, the deputy discovered that this wonderful dog was just out looking for friends to play with.”

“After sufficient play time and fun, deputies were able reunite the dog with his owners.”

“A gate was accidentally left open and this beautiful dog was able to be taken back to his loving home.”

A discarded Pit Bull named Pumpkin had a bleak future. She was “thrown away” when she contracted heartworm. But thankfully, Pumpkin’s story was far from over!

Jackie saw Pumpkin’s photo posted by Collar Inc. and immediately fell in love. However, Jackie still lives with her parents, and they said she couldn’t adopt her because they already had a dog named Shiloh. Jackie was heartbroken.

Several months later, Jackie came home and saw Shiloh upstairs. Then, oddly, she heard another collar jingling downstairs. When she ran down to investigate, she realized her parents had gotten her an early birthday present. Standing there, with a bow wrapped around her, was Pumpkin!

Jackie asked her mom what had changed her mind. And her mom replied that her mind wasn’t totally made up just yet, and they’d see how it goes. Well, it’s three years later, and Pumpkin and her family are still going strong! According to Jackie, Shiloh isn’t Pumpkin’s biggest fan, but she tolerates her like an annoying little sister. Tilana and Buster, two Pit Bulls who were rescued together by Rachael of the Sidewalk Specials Team, finally had a heartwarming reunion after a year of being apart. When they were first found, the dogs were hiding under a table and were in a malnourished state with visible ribs. Despite their situation, they were friendly and trusting towards strangers.

The two dogs were separated into different foster homes, with Tilana being adopted into a family with kids who doted on her. However, due to her leg amputation, it was difficult to keep her still. Meanwhile, Buster found his forever home after six months with two high-maintenance dog sisters, where he thrived.

A year after their rescue, Tilana and Buster finally met again, and their reunion was filled with joy and wagging tails. The kids were thrilled to meet Buster, while Buster’s owners were excited to see Tilana. The moment they heard each other, they started running towards each other and happily sniffed one another. It was as if they had never spent a day apart.

Their reunion was a lovely reminder of how far Tilana and Buster have come since they were first rescued. Despite being separated, their bond was as strong as ever.

Jasmyne, a 100-pound Pitbull, proves that dogs can be the best nannies, especially for baby animals. Elli, a rescuer, found Butter, a Beagle, in a warehouse breeding facility where the poor dog had spent her entire life. During the rescue, Butter had seven puppies with her, and she was so stressed that she refused to look at Elli. Elli’s Pitbull, Jasmyne, stepped in as the perfect nanny for the seven puppies while Butter took her time to get out of her shell.

Despite Jasmyne being deaf and easily startled, she was very gentle when she was around the puppies. Jasmyne became the perfect nanny for the puppies, rolling and allowing the seven puppies to crawl all over her body. Jasmyne would ensure that the puppies were in their place and helped Elli get some time to spend with Butter.

The Pitbull’s nurturing and gentle nature helped Butter come out of her shell quickly, and soon all the babies were adopted by loving families. Butter was grateful to Jasmyne for looking after her babies while she healed mentally. A Pit Bull named Hazel was taken in by a loving foster family after becoming blind. The family used sound signals to help Hazel get accustomed to her new surroundings, but she became overwhelmed and withdrawn. Hazel’s foster mom noticed that she was “mopey” and uninterested in playing.

Fortunately, Hazel’s demeanor changed after a few days of adjustment. Her tail started to wag, and she became the playful pup that was hidden inside her all along. The vet also determined that Hazel was a candidate for corrective eye surgery, which would restore her eyesight if successful.

Hazel was placed with a new foster family that could accommodate her post-surgery needs. The brave pup underwent the medical procedure, and although it would take time for her sight to return fully, Hazel did incredibly well. Donnie, a 62-pound Pitbull, was left alone in a courtyard in New York and wandered for two days. After being rescued and taken to the Animal Care Center in Brooklyn, Donnie had something to prove. Despite his big size, he was just a big mushball. “Some of our biggest dogs are also the biggest, mushiest babies! It’s so sweet and silly that they don’t realize their own size, or that most people are probably afraid of them,” said Manisha Shah, an ACC volunteer.

Donnie was nervous at first, but he quickly warmed up to the volunteers and started smiling at everyone who walked by. Shah, who runs Boroughbred in Brooklyn, made a video about Donnie to help him get adopted. Pitbulls like Donnie often have a hard time finding homes, even though they are friendly, loving pets. According to TIME, dogs labeled as “pitbulls” will often wait three times as long at shelters to find homes than dogs of different breeds.

When faced with the difficult decision of surrendering a pet to a shelter, some owners may resort to pretending their pets are strays. This was the case for two dogs, Tay Tay and her daughter Holly, who were brought to the Southhold Animal Center in Long Island, New York by three young women claiming to have found them wandering the streets. However, the women made the mistake of leaving their names on the dog tags, and upon further questioning, they admitted that they were actually the dogs’ owners but were unable to keep them due to losing their home.

The shelter took the dogs in and had them checked by a veterinarian, only to find that they were suffering from severe skin infections and arthritis. Despite receiving treatment, Tay Tay and Holly will always bear the scars of their neglectful past, with bumpy skin and thin hair. This has made it difficult for them to find a permanent home, as potential adopters may be put off by their appearance.

Nevertheless, shelter manager Gabby Stroup is hopeful that someone will see beyond the dogs’ physical imperfections and give them the loving home they deserve. Tay Tay, in particular, is described as a friendly and affectionate dog who loves to be around people and enjoys belly rubs and lounging on the couch. Stroup started a Facebook page for Tay Tay in the hopes of finding her a forever home, and the North Fork Animal Welfare League, which runs the shelter, is accepting adoption inquiries for both dogs.

It is a sad reality that many animals end up in shelters due to circumstances beyond their control. While surrendering a pet is never an easy decision, it is important for owners to be honest about their situation and to take responsibility for their pets’ welfare. Pretending that a pet is a stray not only puts an additional burden on already overtaxed shelters but also makes it harder for the pet to find a permanent home. The shelter welcomed Cholula, a friendly and expectant Pit Bull, with open arms. She loved to walk around and greet the staff, and everyone there quickly grew to love her in return. Then, one night after everyone had left for the day, Cholula gave birth to a healthy litter of one boy and seven girls.

Thom and Alicia, experienced in the rescue and foster communities, graciously offered to take in the entire family. Cholula’s behavior, however, became distant and anxious, which Thom understood was because of the added responsibility of protecting her newborn pups.

Thom converted his home office into a nursery to accommodate the growing family, and the furry clan settled in. The puppies nursed frequently, and Cholula was patient and attentive. However, she remained anxious and hesitant around the couple. Fortunately, Thom and Alicia’s dog, Ruby, provided a solution and helped Cholula feel safe.

As the puppies grew more independent, Cholula became more comfortable around her foster parents, and a new friendship was forged. Despite being exhausted from caring for her puppies, Thom and Alicia continued to provide love and support for Cholula and her furry family. Thom even serenaded the pups with his singing talents!

Learn about the heartwarming story of Carson, a Pit Bull who wouldn’t leave his corner in a dog shelter. Dog shelters can be overwhelming for dogs as they are noisy, chaotic, and sparsely furnished. Carson was surrendered by his family due to skin allergies and was clearly disturbed in the shelter environment, shaking violently and refusing to move.

Fortunately, Lauren, a volunteer with Philly Bully Team, heard about Carson and decided to take him home. She knew that he needed to feel secure to thrive, and Carson was grateful to her from the moment he saw her. They were a perfect match, with Lauren providing the constant attention that Carson required.

Lauren realized that they were a match made in heaven and informed the rescue group that she wanted to make the adoption final. Carson is overjoyed to be reunited with Lauren and won’t leave her side, even when she needs to work from home. Despite being obstructive at times, Lauren is happy to have Carson as her companion.

Carson’s favorite pastime is snuggling, going for walks, and seeking out the best sticks. When he’s out on walks, his entire body wags with happiness. It’s heartening to see how Carson has gone from being terrified and shaking to a happy boy who loves nothing more than curling up with Lauren on the couch.
