Some of the most loving gestures are those that occur when nobody is watching. That’s exactly what happened when a café customer stumbled upon a stray dog in need and had no idea that anyone would see what she did next.

It was a cold and rainy day in Zonguldak, Turkey when a café customer finished her coffee and set out to start her day. As she exited the cafe, she noticed a stray dog curled up on the front steps, seeking some sort of refuge from the frigid rain. The poor pup was noticeably shivering and curled up in a tight ball in effort to stay warm.

The café customer stood there for a few seconds, likely contemplating how she could brighten this furry friend’s day and offer some comfort. It was then that she removed the scarf from around her neck and placed it upon the quivering pup.

At that moment her comfort took a back seat to the overwhelming urge she felt to help a fur baby in need. As the woman walked away, the pup nuzzled into his makeshift blanket, likely feeling thankful for her kind gesture.

Though the heartwarming moment only lasted a few seconds, it wasn’t long before the footage of this interaction went viral. Everyone was blown away by this incredible act of kindness and wanted to acknowledge the woman behind the loving offer.

Soon this video made headlines around the country and made it possible for the selfless woman to be identified. Someone who watched the video realized that this wasn’t an unknown woman, but that this was the action of her animal loving friend – Duygu Elma.

Elma had no idea that her simple gesture would result in so much praise from dog lovers around the world. With no other option available to help the stray pup in that moment, she said it just seemed like the right thing to do.

“I couldn’t imagine that my actions would receive this attention. I’m very surprised about it. The weather was so cold. I just couldn’t take it when I saw him shivering.” – Duygu Elma

If you see something, say something. It’s a phrase that became synonymous with safety after 9/11.

And while it’s a campaign geared towards preventing terrorism, speaking up when you see something wrong can prevent crimes, save lives, and put criminals in jail.

Stacey Rybak was at Intracoastal Park in Boynton Beach, Florida when she spotted a man punch his dog. She immediately pulled out her phone and started recording.

Some viewers may find the following footage distressing.

The video was shared with Mutty Paws Rescue, who posted in on their Facebook page and contacted the animal cruelty unit with the Boynton Beach Police Department.

In the video, a man is seen walking a 2-year-old female pit bull-Lab mix. As the two walk down a sidewalk, he stops and the dog cowers before the man punches the dog several times.

“The owner bent down and grabbed the harness and just started to beat the dog. I still have a hard time talking about it,” Rybak told WPTV.

As soon as the police were made aware of the video they responded to the park where they were able to gather information that led to the identification of the man.

The case was then turned over to the department’s animal cruelty investigator.

According to the Boynton Beach Police Department, animal cruelty investigator Liz Roehrich interviewed the man shown in the video and removed the dog, Addison also known as Adi, from his home.

Adi was taken to Palm Beach County Animal Care where she underwent an examination by a veterinarian and will remain for the duration of the investigation.

“Inv. Roehrich continues to gather information and evidence. Addison is safe now and in the custody of PBC Animal Care and Control pending the results of our investigation,” the police wrote on Facebook.

Tuesday afternoon the Boynton Beach Police Department shared an update.

“Addison’s owner permanently relinquished custody of her today following a visit to his home by our animal cruelty investigator.”

According to Roehrich, when she spoke to Addison’s owner he expressed “extreme remorse” and understood the gravity of his actions. While at his home, Roehrich observed two senior dogs that appeared to be well taken care of.

“Adi can now look forward to finding a forever home filled with love and gentle hands,” Roehrich said.

Those who are interested in adopting Adi are urged to contact Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.

It is absolutely horrible to think that if Stacey hadn’t been in the right place at the right time and didn’t say something, in this case use her phone and share the video online, poor Adi would still be with this man.

Animals cannot tell us if they are being abused, it is up to us to recognize the signs and report those who are abusive towards our four-legged friends.

It’s always heartbreaking to see how cruel people can be to their pets. Sometimes shocking footage reveals the truth behind pet owners, prompting outrage and demands for justice.

That’s the case today, as leaked footage shows a dog being tossed around and slapped by his owner… who happens to be the CEO of a company.

Jeffrey Previte is the 46-year-old CEO of an environmental consulting firm in LA. But on August 22, he was caught on security camera abusing his dog, Beachy, dragging him by the neck and slapping him.

The shocking scene was spotted by the concierge at Previte’s luxury apartment complex.

“I heard the dog screaming and when I looked on the camera, I saw him beating the dog,” the concierge told the Daily Mail.

“He was very angry. He was choking and slapping the dog. He even slammed the poor dog against the wall.”

Horrified by what he saw, the concierge called Previte and informed him he was going to file a report. “He became irate… and then he hung up on me,” he said. “He apologized the next day, but I didn’t think it was a sincere apology.”

The concierge filed the report to the building, which has horrified people since leaking online.

While the concierge says his bosses did not take the allegation seriously at first, the building manager said they were investigating the case.

“The apparent conduct of the unit owner was abhorrent and completely unacceptable,” they told the Daily Mail. “We took swift action including contacting animal control… We continue to evaluate other measures that can be taken with our counsel.”

Previte, who is also reportedly an avid hunter whose social media includes photos of him posing with killed deer, has defended his actions.

‘There’s nothing illegal about what I did,” he said. “I said if you need to tell the building, tell the building.”

It remains to be seen if Previte will face any legal or professional consequences of his actions, but his father and boss, Frank Previte, told TMZ that his company has launched an investigation, potentially leading to disciplinary action.

It’s shocking how terribly some people treat their pets. We hope justice is served and this CEO faces consequences for animal abuse.

Having surveillance cameras surrounding your home can offer more than just peace of mind. In McClain County, Oklahoma one resident’s security cameras captured not attempted burglary, but a different kind of crime. The footage revealed a man cruelly dumping three puppies onto a gravel road. Not only did he abandon the dogs, he physically harmed them.

The witness, Joe Fleming, described to KFOR what he saw on his security cameras that day.

“[The suspect] opened the hatch and reached in and just started grabbing dogs by their neck and throwing them out the back of the truck.”

The footage is disturbing, to say the least. Police shared images of the offender, asking the public for help identifying him. The results of the investigation were not publicly shared.

You can see clips of the incident below, but be warned the footage depicts animal abuse which may be upsetting to some.

The People Who Cared About The Pups

Though one horrible person showed these dogs cruelty, some went out of their way to show them love. Dana Scott, a partner with Helping Paws Animal Rescue, noted that though this type of mistreatment is awful, it’s sadly not too uncommon. She said:

“In the last eight years, my partner and I have saved probably 1,100 dogs from this exact situation.”

Lucky for them, these three dogs would be saved by Helping Paws. The rescue spayed/neutered and microchipped the dogs. They found foster homes right away, and eventually found forever families too. One adopter, Steve Howard, said he was more than glad to help an animal in need.

“We’ve got a big space out in the country and we like helping animals out.”

The pups’ happy ending comes only as a result of dedicated and caring people like Fleming and those at Helping Paws. It feels uplifting to know there’s a lot of good out there working to counteract the evil. You can donate to help the rescue save more dogs here.

What To Do If You Witness Animal Abuse

Gather any evidence to report to your local animal control agency. If your area does not have an official animal control agency or you can’t locate their information, call your local police. Police departments sometimes have specific units for animal-related cases. If not, they might be able to direct you to the proper agency.

For violent crimes that are currently in progress, dial 9-1-1.

Sometimes when we think no one is looking, they actually are. And that is just what happened when one woman committed a small act of kindness for her fellow earthly creature.

Since we live in an age of technology, surveillance cameras are usually al around us, watching us. And one security camera caught the moment a customer was leaving a café on a cold and rainy day in Zonguldak, Turkey. After exiting the doorway, she noticed a stray dog shivering beneath the awning outside – doing his best to shelter himself from the elements.

Instead of walking away, the woman decided to make him more comfortable with what little she had and gifted him her scarf.

While the scene only lasted a few minutes, it didn’t go unnoticed as it soon was posted online where it went viral – capturing hearts and headlines everywhere.

“Humanity is not dead,” one news outlet commented.

At first, the woman was anonymous – at least until someone watched the clip and recognized it as their friend, Duygu Elma.

Elma never expected to be given so much praise for gifting a stray dog her scarf. But since she was unable to offer the dog anything else at the moment, she felt it was the right thing to do.

Elma told The Dodo, “I couldn’t imagine that my actions would receive this attention. I’m very surprised about it. The weather was so cold. I just couldn’t take it when I saw him shivering.”

While her interaction with the stray ended there, Elma remains optimistic that others have taken care of his well-being. Given that Turkey has a reputation for being a country of animal lovers, hopefully, the stray ended up having someone take him in. Elma’s just happy she was able to set an example for others to follow.
